USE OF ADAPTIVE CODED MODULATION ACM AND MAXIMAL RATIO COMBINING MRC TO MITIGATE THE EFFECTS OF RAIN ATTENUATION AND INTERFERENCE ON LMDS SYSTEMS IN SURABAYA

ABSTRAK

Local Multipoint Distribution Service LMDS merupakan teknologi yang digunakan pada komunikasi broadband dengan kapasitas dan bandwidth tinggi. Sistem ini menggunakan frekuensi gelombang milimeter yang permasalahan utamanya mempunyai redaman yang cukup besar terutama redaman akibat hujan apalagi di daerah tropis seperti Indonesia serta adanya interferensi antar sel sehingga bisa menurunkan kinerja sistem. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan analisa kinerja beberapa metode untuk mengoptimalkan kinerja sistem antara lain seperti penggunaan modulasi adaptif pengkodean rangkap Convotional Code dan Reed Solomon adaptif dan teknik diversity yaitu MRC. Pengamatan sistem transmisi adaptif diterapkan pada BER maksimum 10-6 dengan jarak link antara TS ke BS Target bervariasi mulai 1 - 4 km. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pengaruh interferensi dapat diblok oleh redaman hujan. Untuk kondisi redaman hujan hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa sistem ACM dan MRC mampu mencapai link availability 99.99 untuk jarak TS ke BS Target hingga 2 km sedangkan efisiensi bandwidth mencapai 3.7056 bpsHz dan turun menjadi 1.6396 bpsHz karena interferensi. Pada sistem ACM dan MRC yang menjamin BER maksimum 10-6 untuk jarak TS ke BS Target 4 km mencapai link availability 99.9429 dan turun menjadi 99.9419 karena interferensi sedangkan efisiensi bandwidth mencapai 3.6159 bpsHz dan turun menjadi 1.5857 bpsHz dengan adanya pengaruh interferensi atau mencapai maksimal bit rate 0.4 Gbps. Secara keseluruhan penerapan transmisi adaptif dan teknik diversity menunjukkan peningkatan kinerja BER dan efisiensi bandwidth dibandingkan dengan kinerja sistem non adaptif.


ABSTRACT

Local Multipoint Distribution Service LMDS is used to broadband wireless communication system requiring high capacity traffic channels bandwidth and highspeed data. The system uses millimeter wave frequency that has very high rain attenuation and also intercell interference especially in tropical region like as Indonesia which can decrease performance of the system. This research is done to analyze the performance of some methods which are to optimalize the performance of system for example the use of adaptive modulation adaptive concatenated encoding combination between Convolutional Codes and Reed Solomon Codes and MRC. The observations of adaptive transmission system is applied in maximum BER 10-6 with variations of length between terminal station TS and the desired base station BS is about 1 - 4 km. In the analysis results show that the interference factor could be blocked by the rain attenuation. In the rain attenuation of presence the analysis result was applied shows that the ACM and MRC system is able to provide the link availability is 99.99 which the length between TS and the desired BS is up to 2 km and the bandwidth efficiency is 3.7056 bpsHz down to 1.6396 bpsHz is caused by the interference. In ACM and MRC system is guaranteed to have maximum BER 10-6 in 4 km length between TS and the desired BS which have link availability is 99.9429 turns into 99.9419 because the interference and the bandwidth efficiency is 3.6159 bpsHz turns into 1.5857 bpsHz because the interference and also maximum bit rate is 0.4 Gbps. The overall implementation of adaptive transmission and diversity techniques shows that the improvement of BER and bandwidth efficiency performance is better than non-adaptive system.
