ABSTRAK

Intsia bijuga merupakan pohon penghasil kayu keras dengan sifat kuat dan awet. Intsia bijuga memiliki nilai jual yang tinggi dalam hal flooring misalnya parket. Akan tetapi Intsia bijuga memiliki zat ekstraktif yang dapat terlarut dalam air misalnya tannin sehingga penampilan kayu menjadi kurang menarik. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mencegah pelunturan zat warna kayu sehingga kualitas kayu meningkat. Pada penelitian ini digunakan kompleks Fe-SCN untuk menghambat terjadinya perubahan warna kayu jika terkena air. Kompleks Fe-SCN diukur dengan spektrofotomeri UV-Vis dalam kondisi asam yang menyerap sinar pada panjang gelombang maksimum 470 nm dengan kondisi optimum berada pada pH 4 dan kompleks Fe-SCN yang dihasilkan dengan metode variasi kontinu adalah 16 FeSCN638722. Kayu Intsia bijuga direndam dengan larutan kompleks Fe-SCN 16 selama 10 jam. Kayu mengalami penurunan absorbansi sebesar 247 berat kayu bertambah sebanyak 30383 g warna kayu bertambah gelap dan berat jenis menjadi 097 gcm3 sehingga kualitas kayu setelah dilakukan adsorpsi dengan kompleks Fe-SCN meningkat dari kelas II kuat menjadi kelas I sangat kuat.


ABSTRACT

Intsia bijuga is a hard wood with strong and long lasting properties. The most important use of Intsia bijuga commercially is in flooring such as parquet. However Intsia bijuga contains significant quantities of water-soluble extractives including soluble tannins this degrades the wood performance. The objectives of this research was to prevent soluble extractives running from the wood into the water so that quality of Intsia bijuga would be improved. In this study Fe-SCN complex compound was used to treated the wood.the Fe-SCN complex was measured using UV-Vis spectrometry in acid condition at maximum wavelength of 470 nm. At optimum condition of pH4 the mol ratio of resulted Fe-SCN complex determined by continous variation methods was 16 FeSCN638722. Intsia bijuga was treated with Fe-SCN 16 complex compound adsorption method as long as 10 h. The results showed that the absorbance was decreased at 247 the mass of Intsia bijuga was increased at 30383 g the wood surface was slightly darkened and the density of wood was 097 gcm3 so the quality of Intsia bijuga increased from 2nd class strong to 1st class stronger.
