ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mensintesis silika aerogel berbasis abu bagasse dengan metode pengeringan pada tekanan ambient dengan modifikasi permukaan serta solvent exchange menggunakan n-hexane dan pyridine untuk proses gelation. Karakter yang diinginkan adalah silika aerogel yang memiliki kapasitas adsorpsi yang besar volume pori yang besar luas permukaan yang besar dan bersifat hidrofobik. Sintesis silika aerogel pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode sol-gel. Sintesis diawali dengan pembuatan larutan asam silicic yang diperoleh dari abu bagasse yang diekstraksi dengan larutan NaOH kemudian dilewatkan dalam resin penukar ion. Ke dalam larutan asam silicic ini ditambahkan TMCS dan HMDS sebagai agen pemodifikasi permukaan kemudian diteteskan ke n-hexane dan selanjutnya ditambahkan pyridine hingga terbentuk gel. Gel yang dihasilkan kemudian di-aging dan dikeringkan dengan suhu dan waktu tertentu. Karakterisasi produk dilakukan dengan pengukuran volume pori dan surface area menguji hidrofobisitasnya serta melihat morfologinya. Silika aerogel yang dihasilkan berbentuk serbuk kasar dan serbuk halus. Sifat fisik terbaik berupa volume pori surface area dan hidrofobisitas diperoleh pada perbandingan volume SA TMCS HMDS 1 004 006 yaitu dengan surface area sebesar 1153501 m2g dan volume pori 1119 ccg. Sudut kontak yang dihasilkan 130o.


ABSTRACT

The main objective of this research is to synthesize silica aerogel based on bagasse ash by ambient pressure with surface modification and solvent exchange using n-hexane and pyridine for gelation process. The silica aerogel was synthesized using used a sol-gel method. This synthesis began with the preparation of silicic acid solution by extracting bagasse ash with 2 N NaOH solution and then passing it through the ion exchange resin. The silicic acid was then added with TMCS and HMDS as surface modifying agent the mixture was dropped into n-hexane and then added with pyridine to form gel. After that it was aged and dried at a certain temperature and time. Characterization of the products was done by calculating the pore volume testing their hydrophobicity observing their morphologies by SEM and measuring their adsorption capacity by BET. The resulted silica aerogel were in the form of coarse powder and fine powder. The best physical properties such as pore volume surface area and hydrophobic obtained at the volume ratio SA TMCS HMDS 1 004 006 which is the surface area of 1153501 m2g and pore volume of 1119 ccg with the contact angle of 130o.
