ABSTRAK

Telah dilakukan penelitian pelapisan hidrofobik pada kaca dengan metode sol gel berbasis water glass. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui teknik pelapisan hidrofobik silika pada kaca dengan metode sol gel serta untuk mengetahui kondisi operasi pelapisan hidrofobik sol silika pada kaca. Dalam penelitian ini water glass dilarutkan dalam air pada suhu 60oC. Water glass kemudian didinginkan dalam suhu ruang dan dilewatkan dalam resin kation hingga terbentuk asam silcic dengan pH2. Substrat berupa kaca dicelup dalam asam silicic dengan berbagai macam kecepatan penarikan lalu didiamkan pada suhu kamar selama 10 jam. Substrat dicelup dalam metanol selama 1 jam lalu dicelup dalam surface-modifying agent HMDS and TMCS dengan berbagai macam kondisi operasi. Langkah terakhir substrat dioven selama 2 jam. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kecepatan penarikan pada pencelupan asam silicic serta konsentrasi water glass yang digunakan tidak memiliki pengaruh yang besar terhadap tingkat hidrofobisitas. Peningkatan sudut kontak ditunjukkan dengan semakin besar konsentrasi dan semakin tinggi suhu surface-modifying agent serta semakin lama waktu pencelupan dalam surface-modifying agent. Hasil terbaik diperoleh dengan kecepatan penarikan 75 cmmenit konsentrasi TMCS 97 M dengan suhu 50oC dengan waktu pencelupan selama 7 jam serta konsentrasi SiO2 56 berat dengan sudut kontak sebesar 1425o. Untuk tingkat tranparansi substrat peningkatan lama pencelupan serta suhu pada surface-modifying agent dan konsentrasi SiO2 menyebabkan penurunan tingkat transparansi substrat. Tetapi secara keseluruhan tingkat transparansi substrat mencapai 935 relatif terhadap transparansi substrat yang tidak terlapisi.


ABSTRACT

The research of hydrophobic coating for glass with sol gel method based on water glass had been done. This paper proposed the technique of hydrophobic sol gel silica coating on the glass and the condition for conditioning hydrophobic silica sol on the glass. In this experiment water glass was diluted in water 60oC then it cooled at room temperature and passed through the caution resin to produced silicic acid pH 2. Glass substrate was dipped in silicic acid with various of drawing speed then aging at room temperature for 10 hours. Substrate was dipped in methanol for an hour and dipped in surface-modifying agent HMDS and TMCS with various operating conditions. Final step substrate was dried for 2 hours. This research showed that drawing speed and concentration of water glass had no effect to the contact angle. The increasing contact angle was depend on how high the concentration and temperature of surface-modifying agent and also duration of immersion in the surface-modifying agent. The best result was obtained with 7.5 cmmin for the drawing speed 9.7 M in 50oC for TMCS concentration with duration of immersion seven hours and 5.6 weight for water glass concentration with contact angle was 142.5o. For transparency level duration of immersion in surface-modifying agent temperature of surface-modifying agent and concentration SiO2 caused decreasing transparency level of glass. Overall transparency level of glass was 93.5 relative with transparency of substrate without coating.
