ABSTRAK

Penelitian tentang pengaruh kecepatan aliran gas CO2 metode karbonasi terhadap pembentukan kalsium karbonat dari air kapur telah dilakukan. Air kapur yang digunakan merupakan air bening hasil pelarutan batu kapur yang berasal dari Desa Tuwiri Wetan Kabupaten Tuban setelah kalsinasi pada suhu 800 C dan dilanjutkan dengan pelarutan dalam aquades selama 26162024 jam. Proses karbonasi dilakukan dengan variasi kecepatan alir gas CO2 yaitu 2 5 7 dan 10 SCFH. Proses tersebut menghasilkan endapan berwarna putih yang merupakan kalsium karbonat CaCO3 dengan kemurnian tinggi. Pengaruh kecepatan aliran gas CO2 terhadap struktur dan morfologi kalsium karbonat CaCO3 yang dihasilkan dipelajari dengan XRD dan SEM. Fasa penyusun CaCO3 hasil sintesis karbonasi adalah vaterit dan kalsit. Seiring dengan peningkatan aliran gas CO2 jumlah fasa vaterit semakin menurun sedangkan jumlah fasa kalsit semakin meningkat. Berdasarkan analisis data difraksi sinar-x menggunakan perangkat lunak MAUD pada kecepatan aliran gas CO2 2 SCFH didapatkan ukuran kristal vaterit 29 nm dan kalsit 200 nm.


ABSTRACT

Research on the influence of CO2 gas flow rate carbonation method on the formation of calcium carbonate from lime water has been performed. The lime water was obtained from the transparent part of a dissolved natural limestone from Tuwiri Wetan Tuban after it was heated at 800 C in pure water for 2x24 hours. The carbonation process used a variation of CO2 gas flow rate of 2 5 7 and 10 SCFH. A white precipitate of high purity calcium carbonate CaCO3 was produced after the process. Effects of CO2 gas flow rate on the structure and morphology of the products were studied using XRD and SEM. The process resulted in vaterite and calcite where the amount of vaterite decreases with flow rate while that of calcite increases complementary. Further analysis using MAUD showed that flow rate of 2 SCFH gave crystalite size of vaterite around 29 nm and calcite around 200 nm.
