ABSTRAK

Brown gas merupakan salah satu energi alternatif yang sekarang banyak diteliti dan dikembangkan dalam bidang otomotif. Terutama dalam meningkatkan effisiensi penggunaan bahan bakar. Brown gas menghasilkan gas H2 yang mempunyai nilai kalor tinggi. Dengan mencampurkan gas H2 pada campuran bensin dan udara dapat meningkatkan nilai kalor dan oktan sehingga kinerja mesin lebih baik. Di samping itu karena brown gas juga mengandung gas O2 maka dapat menyempurnakan proses pembakaran serta memperbaiki kualitas emisi gas buang. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimental dengan membuat dan menguji model prototip brown gas terdiri dari enam buah sel yang tersusun seri. Untuk mempercepat proses elektrolisis ditambahkan katalis KOH pada air. Sebagai elektroda digunakan plat stainless steel tipe 316 L. Model prototip brown gas enam sel diuji secara eksperimental pada mesin kendaraan jenis esspas 1300 cc dan hasilnya dibandingkan dengan prototip broen gas type empat sell yang dijual di pasaran. Hasil yang didapatkan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa dengan adanya penambahan system brown gas dapat menurunkan Spesifik Fuel Consumsion sebesar 00529 Kg bbHP jam dan menaikkan daya sebesar 043 HP pada mesin esspas 1300 cc. Hasil pembandingan model prototip brown gas yang terbaik adalah type-A dengan luasan plat 80 cm2. Penurunan nilai Spesifik Fuel Consumsion tertinggi terjadi pada brown gas tipe-A dengan luasan plat 80 cm2 yaitu sebesar 39.09 pada putaran 1500 rpm. Sedangkan kenaikan daya tertinggi terjadi pada prototip gas tipe-A dengan luasan plat 80 cm2 yaitu sebesar 336 pada putaran 1000 rpm


ABSTRACT

Brown gas is an energy alternative that is now being researched and developed in the automotive field. Especially in improving the efficiency of fuel use. Brown gas produces H2 gas which has a high calorific value. By mixing H2 on gasoline and air mixture to increase the calorific value and octane so the Leih engine performance become better. In addition because the brown gas also contains gas O2 it can improve the combustion process and the quality of exhaust emissions. This research experimentally by creating and testing prototype models of Brown gas consists of six cells arranged series. To speed up the process of electrolysis the catalyst is added KOH in water. As the electrodes used type 316 stainless steel plate L. Model gas brown six-cell prototypes are tested experimentally on vehicle engine type esspas 1300 cc and the results were compared with four types of prototypes broen sell gas on the market. Results obtained from this study is that with the addition of brown gas system can reduce the Spesifik Fuel Consumsion at 0.0529 kg fuel h and raise the power to 0.43 HP at the engine of the esspas 1300 cc. The result of the benchmarking model that best prototip brown gas was a type- A. Decline in value of the highest Spesifik Fuel Consumsion conducted on the type-A brown gas is equal to 39.09 at 1500 rpm. While the increase in peak power occurred at brown gas prototype type-A that is equal to 3.36 at 1000 rpm.
