ABSTRAK

Penelitian tentang karakteristik aerodinamik dari empat silinder dilakukan secara eksperimental pada aliran uniform dengan Reynolds number 54 x 104. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui karakteristik dari empat silinder sirkular yang disusun secara equispaced dan diletakkan dekat dengan dinding datar. Adapun aplikasi dari penelitian ini yakni pada susunan shell and tube heat exchanger atau pipa bawah laut. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara mengamati pola aliran melintasi empat buah silinder sirkular yang disusun secara equispaced dengan jarak antar silinder LD 4 dan variasi rasio jarak gap GD yang digunakan adalah 1067 1133 1200 dan 1267. Dari penelitian ini akan menghasilkan data kualitatif dan data kuantitatif. Data kuantitatif terdiri dari profil kecepatan di belakang susunan empat silinder serta distribusi tekanan Cp dari empat silinder dan dinding datar. Sedangkan data kualitatif didapatkan dengan melakukan visualisasi aliran pada empat silinder yang diletakkan dekat dinding datar untuk mengetahui interaksi alirannya. Dengan semakin meningkatnya rasio gap yang digunakan maka blockage effect yang terjadi pada silinder semakin menurun kecuali pada silinder-2 upstream atas blockage tidak mempengaruhi karakteristik alirannya. Terjadinya re-attachment pada sisi lower silinder downstream lebih disebabkan karena pengaruh dinding datar dan interferensi wake dari silinder upstream.


ABSTRACT

The aerodynamic characteristics of four cylinders were investigated experimentally in a uniform flow at a Reynolds number of 54 x 104. The focus of this experiment was on determination of the characteristics of four circular cylinders in equispaced arrangement near side-wall. Those cylinders applied at shell and tube heat exchangers or undersea pipings. The four cylinders were arranged in equispaced distance LD 4 and were varied for gap ratio cylinder to side-wall GD 1067 1133 1200 and 1267 respectively. The experiment would gived quantitative and qualitative data. The velocity profile behind the four cylinders and distribution of pressure coefficient Cp of each cylinders and side-wall were reported as quantitative data. Oil flow picture around four cylinders with equispaced arrangement near side-wall which visualized to explain fluid flow interaction phenomenon. The increasing of the gap ratio caused the decreasing of blockage effects towards cylinders except cylinder-2. Reattachment at lower-side of downstream cylinders were caused by side-wall effects and wake interference from upstream cylinders.
