ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari sintesis silika aerogel berbasis abu bagasse dengan metode pengeringan pada tekanan ambient menggunakan teknik co-precursor. Fokus penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh rasio volume dan interval waktu penambahan dari agen pemodifikasi permukaan yaitu trimethylchlorosilane TMCS dan hexamethyldisilazane HMDS. Karakter yang diinginkan adalah silika aerogel yang memiliki surface area besar dan bersifat hidrofobik. Silika aerogel disintesis dengan metode sol-gel. Sintesis diawali dengan pembuatan larutan silicic acid yang diperoleh dari ekstraksi abu bagasse larutan NaOH 2 N kemudian dilewatkan dalam resin penukar ion. Larutan asam silicic ini kemudian ditambahkan dengan TMCS dan HMDS sebagai agen pemodifikasi permukaan. Untuk mengatur pH hingga mencapai 8-9 dilakukan penambahan larutan NH4OH 1 N sehingga terbentuk gel. Kemudian gel di-aging pada suhu 40C selama 18 jam dan 60C selama 1 jam serta dikeringkan pada suhu 80C selama 24 jam. Karakterisasi produk dilakukan dengan menganalisa gugus fungsi pada partikel mengukur surface area melihat morfologi partikel dan menguji hidrofobisitas. Rasio volume TMCS dan HMDS terhadap silicic acid yang menghasilkan surface area dan sudut kontak terbesar yaitu 523733 m2g dan 156 adalah 004 006 dengan interval waktu penambahan TMCS dan HMDS masing-masing sebesar 20 dan 30 menit.


ABSTRACT

The main objective of this research is to investigate synthesis of silica aerogel based on bagasse ash by ambient pressure drying APD method using co-precursor technique. This research is focused on studying the effect of volume ratio and interval of adding time of surface modifying agent trimethylchlorosilane TMCS and hexamethyldisilazane HMDS. The prepared silica aerogel should have high surface area and hydrophobic. The silica aerogel was synthesized using a sol-gel method. The synthesis began with preparing silicic acid solution by extracting bagasse ash with 2 N NaOH solution and then passing it through the ion exchange resin. This silicic acid then was added with TMCS and HMDS as surface modifying agent. To reach pH at 8-9 solution was added by 1 N NH4OH solution to form gel. After that the gel was aged at 40C for 18 h. 60C for 1 h. and dried at 80C for 24 h. The products were characterized for their functional group surface area morphology and hydrophobicity. The highest surface area and contact angle is respectively 523.733 m2g and 156 for silica aerogel synthesized at volume ratio of SA TMCS HMDS 1 0.04 0.06 and interval of adding time TMCS and HMDS is 20 and 30 min.
