ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh konsentrasi NaOH terhadap recovery silika dan pengaruh kondisi pengasaman rasio pengenceran pH rate titrasi HCl dan waktu aging terhadap karakteristik silika yang dihasilkan. Pada penelitian ini secara garis besar proses pembuatan silika gel dari geothermal sludge dapat dibagi menjadi dua tahap yaitu tahap ekstraksi silika dan tahap pembentukan gel. Dalam tahap ekstraksi geothermal sludge dilarutkan dalam larutan NaOH pada titik didihnya selama satu jam. Untuk tahap pembentukan gel filtrat yang dihasilkan dari hasil ekstraksi dititrasi dengan HCl 1 N sampai pH10 dan dilakukan aging tahap awal selama satu jam. Dilanjutkan titrasi lagi sampai pH akhir yang divariasi dan dilakukan aging tahap kedua selama waktu yang divariasi. Selanjutnya dilakukan pencucian dengan air demin dan slurry disaring. Proses pencucian diulangi sebanyak tiga kali. Hasil yang dicapai penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa yield recovery silika meningkat dengan naiknya konsentrasi NaOH. Pengenceran sodium silikat yang besar meningkatkan surface area silika yang dihasilkan. Pada variasi pH akhir kenaikan pH menyebabkan surface area dan volum pori silika mengalami penurunan. Peningkatan rate titrasi HCl menyebabkan menurunnya surface area silika. Surface area meningkat dalam waktu aging 6 - 18 jam dan menurun pada waktu aging di atas 18 jam. Diameter silika yang dihasilkan termasuk dalam kategori mesopori.


ABSTRACT

This research studies the effect of NaOH concentration on the recovery of silica and the effect of acidification conditions dilution ratio pH HCl titration rate and aging time on the characteristics of the resulting silica. In this research an outline of the process of making silica gel from geothermal sludge can be divided into two stages there are extraction stage and the stage of formation of silica gel. In the extraction stage geothermal sludge was dissolved in NaOH solution at the boiling point for one hour. For gel formation stage the filtrate resulting from the extraction was titrated with HCl 1 N until pH 10 and first stage of aging for an hour. Titration is continued until the final pH is varied and the second stage of aging varied over time. Further washing with demin water and slurry is filtered. Washing process was repeated three times. The results of this research are indicate that the yield of recovery silica increases with increasing NaOH concentration. Dilution of sodium silicate which increase surface area of silica produced. At the end of the pH variation the increase in pH causes the surface area and pore volume of silica decreased. Increased titration rate of HCl caused decreased surface area of silica. Surface area increased within 6-18 hours of aging and decreased in the aging time over 18 hours. The diameter silica of the resulting included in the mesoporous category
