ABSTRAK

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang uji stabilitas lapisan hidrofobik pada kaca yang telah dilapisi sol silika berbasis water-glass maupun Tetraethylortosilicate TEOS. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi stabilitas sifat hidrofobik pada substrat kaca yang dilapisi oleh water-glass dan TEOS dengan metode sol-gel. Dalam penelitian ini Water-glass dan TEOS dibuat menjadi sol silika dengan proses yang berbeda sesuai dengan treatment masing-masing dengan konsentrasi SiO2 akhir sama yaitu 107 berat. Proses selanjutnya dibuat sama dimana kaca dilapiskan dengan sol silika menggunakan metode dip coating. Modifikasi lapisan dilakukan dengan pencelupan kaca ke dalam surface modifying agent selama 9 jam. Kaca yang telah bersifat hidrofobik diuji stabilitasnya dengan beberapa metode yaitu uji thermal uji asam uji sabun dan uji gores. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa sudut kontak tetesan air pada lapisan silika pada kaca dengan precursor water glass maupun TEOS cenderung turun setelah dilakukan pemanasan pada suhu antara 120oC-200oC mulai dari 162o turun menjadi 128o dengan waktu 0-4 jam. Kaca hidrofobik dari precursor water glass lebih stabil terhadap kondisi asam bila dibandingkan dengan kaca hidrofobik dari precursor TEOS. Kaca hidrofobik dari precursor TEOS maupun water glass sama-sama mengalami penurunan hidrofobisitas ketika diberi larutan sabun. Lapisan silika berbasis water glass pada kaca bersifat lebih stabil secara mekanik gores dibandingkan dengan lapisan silika berbasis TEOS. Lapisan hidrofobik berbasis water glass pada kaca memiliki tingkat stabilitas yang hampir sama dengan lapisan hidrofobik berbasis TEOS sehingga water glass dapat dijadikan alternatif precursor lapisan hidrofobik pada kaca untuk menggantikan precursor TEOS


ABSTRACT

In this research we report on the stability test of hydrophobic film on a glass substrate that was made of waterglass and tetraethylortosilicate TEOS as the alkoxide compound. This research has purpose to ensure that silica sol based on waterglass has the same quality or closed to the silica sol based on TEOS in the hydrophobic coating. First of all the preparation of research was carried out by forming the silica sol either from waterglass or TEOS at SiO2 concentration of 107 wt. Then the glass substrate was coated with silica by dip-coating method followed by aging and modifying the silica surface with alcohol and TMCS 10 wt. And after drying the hydrophobic glass was tested by thermal test at range of 120C - 200C for 0 4 hours acid test using HCl 1N for 0 4 hours soap test using soap solution for 0 4 hours and scratch test using pencil at hardness range of H 6H. The result showed that the contact angle of water dropped on the film surface went down as the time increasing but the angle difference between waterglass and TEOS wan not too significant. As the other result the contact angle of water on TEOS film went down after it was soaked into HCl 1N while waterglass not. In the soap test the contact angle of water went down on both precursor. Mechanically the waterglass film has more stable than the TEOS film. Shortly by result we can judge that waterglass can be used as precursor to coat the glass substrate in order to make a hydrophobic glass
