Description:

Burner boiler merupakan salah satu peralatan vital yang dimiliki oleh PLTU PT. PJB UP. Gresik karena fungsinya yang dapat mempengaruhi proses evaporasi air menjadi uap di dalam boiler dan menentukan kualitas uap yang digunakan untuk memutar turbin uap. Kegagalan burner mempengaruhi energi panas yang dihasilkannya untuk proses evaporasi, sehingga dapat menurunkan kualitas uap yang terbentuk. Di PT. PJB UP. Gresik, Burner ditemukan dalam kondisi rusak ketika dilakukan shut down untuk pemeliharaan pada setiap tahunnya. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan penelitian analisa kegagalan untuk menghindari terjadinya kasus kegagalan serupa. Tahap pengambilan data pada penelitian analisa kegagalan ini terdiri dari studi lapangan; pengamatan proses operasi mengenai spesifikasi material, desain awal, dan media operasi; pengamatan makroskopik untuk melihat bentuk dan penampakan kerusakan pada inner dan outer surface secara kasat mata; pengamatan lapisan pada permukaan spesimen dengan menggunakan metode Scanning Electron Microscope; pengujian komposisi kimia dengan menggunakan metode X-Ray Fluorescence untuk melihat komposisi kimia pada outer surface, dan pengujian metalografi untuk melihat struktur mikro spesimen. Berdasarkan hasil analisa dan data yang diperoleh, kegagalan outer pipe burner boiler terjadi karena distribusi panas yang tidak simetris dari sumber api. Hal ini dapat terlihat dari penampakan outer surface yang mengalami perubahan warna dan alur patahan yang tidak simetris. Pada bagian ujung outer pipe yang dekat dengan sumber api, tidak ditemukan adanya unsur Y dan Zr penyusun lapisan coating, sehingga menyebabkan base metal kontak dengan lingkungan bertemperatur tinggi dan terjadi reaksi korosi kering. Pada pengamatan struktur mikro ditemukan fasa sigma pada batas butir yang memiliki kekerasan yang tinggi, sehingga menyebabkan ikatan antar butir menjadi lemah.

Boiler Burner is one of the vital equipment that is owned by the power plant PT. PJB UP. Gresik because of its function that may affect the process of evaporation of water into steam in the boiler and determining the quality of steam used to rotate the steam turbine. Failure of the burner affects the resulting heat energy for evaporation, thus lowering the quality of steam that is formed. On PT. PJB UP. Gresik, Burner was found in a damaged condition when done shut down for maintenance every year. Therefore, it is necessary to do the failure analysis to avoid a similar failure cases. The retrieval step of data on its failure analysis consisted of observations of operation process on the material specification, preliminary design, and media operation; macroscopic observation to see the shape and appearance of inner and outer surface damage by naked eye; observation layer on the outer surface using the Scanning Electron Microscope; testing of chemical composition using X-Ray Fluorescence to see the outer surface chemical compostion; and metallographic testing to see the microstructure. Based on the analysis results and data obtained, the failure of the outer pipe of boiler burner due to the heat distribution is not symmetrical from sources of ignition. It can be seen from outer surface appearance of discolorations and fracture grooves are not symmetric. At the end of the outer pipe which is close to the source of the fire, did not reveal any element of coating layer Y and Zr, causing the based metal contact with high temperature environment and occurring the dry corrosion. In the microstructure observation found sigma phase at grain boundaries that have high hardness, causing bonding between grains weaken.
