ABSTRAK

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari proses pelapisan silika pada substrat baja dan mengevaluasi pengaruh voltase jarak antar elektroda dan waktu terhadap pembentukan lapisan silika serta mempelajari ketahanan korosi carbon steel yang telah terlapisi silika dengan teknik polarisasi linear dan EIS. Waterglass dilarutkan dalam air pada suhu 60oC. Kemudian didinginkan hingga suhu ruang dan dilewatkan dalam resin kation hingga terbentuk silcic acid dengan pH2. Silicic acid dititrasikan kelarutan KOH dengan flow rate konstan hingga terbentuk sol silika yang stabil. Kemudian dilakukan elektroforesis carbon steel dengan larutan elektrolit sol silika. Dilakukan variasi jarak antar elektroda voltase dan waktu elektroforesis. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dengan metode elektroforesis mampu menghasilkan lapisan silika pada permukaan carbon steel. Dari uji polarisasi linear dan EIS yang dilakukan dapat diketahui bahwa lapisan silika yang terbentuk pada permukaan carbon steel mampu menghambat terjadinya korosi. Semakin besar voltase semakin lama waktu elektroforesis dan semakin kecil jarak antar elektroda maka lapisan silika yang terbentuk semakin tebal dan merata. Sehingga pergeseran kurva polarisasi dan kenaikan impedansi semakinbesar yang menunjukkan bahwa ketahanan terhadap korosi juga semakin baik.


ABSTRACT

Abstract The purpose of this research was to study the process of coating silica on steel substrate to evaluate the effect of voltage distance of electrode and time on the formation of silica layer and to study corrosion resistance of carbon steel by linear polarization and EIS. Water glass was diluted in water at 60oC .Then it was cooled at room temperature and passed through the cation resin to produced silicic acid. Silicic acid was titrated into KOH solution with constant flow rate to form a stable sol silica. Then carbon steel was elektrophorise by sol silica as electrolyte solution. The voltage distance of electrode and time was used as variable. This research showed that by electrophoresis method can form silica layer on carbon steel. The linear polarization and EIS test showed that silica layer formed on the surface of carbon steel could inhibit the corrosion of carbon steel. The higher voltage the longer electrophoresis time and the shorter distance of electrode could form a thick and even silica layer. The polarization curve shift to a higher value compared to the bare steel and the impedance was increase. It indicates that the silica layer can act as barrier for the corrosion.
