[ Description ]

Penggunaan gas hasil elektrolisa untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembakaran semakin meningkat. Stainless Steel diaplikasikan sebagai elektroda Generator Brown Gas karena memiliki ketahanan terhadap korosi. Diduga pengaruh elektrolisa jangka panjang dalam elektrolit KOH 30% bisa terjadi korosi yang akan menurunkan produk gas. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, dilakukan penelitian pengaruh lama periode elektrolisa terhadap korosi pada elektroda stainless steel 316L generator brown gas dalam menghasilkan gas.Pada penelitian ini generator brown gas diaktifkan dengan 2 tipe eksperimen yang berbeda yaitu A (5 jam/periode) dan B (7 jam/periode) selama 15 periode. Konsumsi elektrolit dan produk gas diambil tiap periode. Pengamatan visual, resistivitas elektrolit, pH elektrolit, komposisi kimia elektroda dan elektrolit, potensial elektroda dan kondisi lapisan oksida diambil setiap 3 periode untuk kedua tipe eksperimen elektrolisa. Dari penelitian ini didapatkan bahwa korosi terjadi sejak pengamatan akhir periode ke-3 yang dilihat dari perubahan visual elektroda dan naiknya Resistivitas, pH elektrolit, dan potensial elektroda. Katoda menunjukkan perubahan warna permukaan yang lebih gelap dibandingkan dengan anoda. Eksperimen tipe B menunjukkan korosi yang lebih parah daripada eksperimen tipe A ditinjau perubahan fisik lapisan oksida, anoda dan katoda. Per periode elektrolisa pada eksperimen tipe A rata-rata mengkonsumsi 1.65 mL elektrolit dan menghasilkan 570 mL Gas. Pada eksperimen tipe B rata-rata menghasilkan 2.17 mL elektrolit dan menghasilkan 967 mL gas. Jika ditinjau per 1 mL elektrolit yang dikonsumsi, maka eksperimen tipe B menghasilkan gas yang lebih banyak dibandingakan dengan eksperimen tipe A (Eksperimen tipe A=345.5 mL, Eksperimen tipe B 445.6 mL). Selama elektrolisa, korosi yang terjadi belum mempengaruhi produk gas secara signifikan

The used of electrolysis gas to improve the quality of combustion is increasing. Stainless Steel applied as Brown Gas Generator electrode because it has corrosion resistance. Allegedly Long-term effect of electrolysis in 30% KOH electrolyte corrosion can occur that will decrease gas products. In this regard, do this research by conducted on the effect of long periods of electrolysis corrosion of 316L stainless steel electrode brown gas generator to produce gas.In this study, brown gas generator is activated by two different types of experiments, A (5 hours/period) and B (7 hours/period) for 15 periods. Electrolyte and gas product consumption is taken each period. Visual observation, resistivity electrolyte, electrolyte pH, chemical composition of electrode and electrolyte, electrode potential and the condition of the oxide layer is taken every three periods for both types of electrolysis experiments.From this study it was found that corrosion occurred since end of the third period as seen from the visual changes and the increase of resistivity, electrolyte pH, and electrode potentials. Cathode showed darker color surface changes than the anode. Type B experiment showed more severe corrosion than type A experiments that reviewed by physical changes of oxide layer, the anode and cathode. Each period of electrolysis on the type A experiments has average consumed 1.65 mL of electrolyte and produced 570 ml of Gas. In type B experiments has average consumed 2.17 mL of electrolyte and 967 mL of produce of gas. If viewed in each 1 mL of electrolyte that consumed, Experiments of type B produces more gas than type A of experiments (type A experiments = 345.5 mL, type B experiments 445.6 mL). During electrolysis, corrosion does not significantly affect the product of gas.
