[ Description ]

Geometri silinder yang diletakkan dalam aliran yang tegak lurus terhadap sumbunya sangat sering ditemukan dalam dunia teknik. Contohnya antara lain yaitu cooling tower pada industri pembangkit tenaga, susunan cerobong asap pada industri kimia, pengeboran minyak lepas pantai, dan kabel-kabel transmisi jaringan listrik. Untuk memahami karakteristik aliran pada struktur-struktur ini, maka dilakukan penelitian tentang karakteristik aliran melintasi empat silinder teriris tipe I yang tersusun secara equispaced. Percobaan dilakukan dalam subsonic wind tunnel dengan dimensi test section sebagai berikut, tinggi 660 mm, lebar 660 mm, dan panjang 1780 mm. Empat silinder teriris tipe I dengan sudut potong θs=65o dengan diameter luar (D) 60 mm dan panjang (l) 600 mm digunakan sebagai benda uji. Plat akrilik dengan ketebalan 10 mm dan panjang 1200 mm dipasang 100 mm di atas dinding lower side test section. Ujung depan plat akrilik tersebut dipotong membentuk sudut 30o. Konfigurasi silinder diletakkan pada downstream sejauh 430 mm dari leading edge plat datar. Kecepatan freestream dalam wind tunnel diatur agar bernilai 14 m/s dengan Reynolds Number Re=5,4104 (perhitungan Re didasarkan pada diameter silinder dan kecepatan freestream wind tunnel). Jarak transversal antar silinder diatur sehingga bernilai L/D=4. Rasio gap terhadap diameter silinder diatur sehingga bernilai G/D=0,800; 0,867, 0,933 dan 1,000. Distribusi tekanan pada permukaan silinder dan dinding diukur dengan pressure tranmitter dan data acquisition. Profil kecepatan di belakang silinder didapatkan dengan mengukur kecepatan aliran di belakang silinder menggunakan pitot static tube yang terhubung ke pressure transmitter. Visualisasi aliran dilakukan dengan metode oil flow picture. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada rasio jarak gap terhadap diameter silinder G/D=0,800; 0,867; 0,933; dan 1,000, blockage effect sudah tidak terlalu mempengaruhi aliran yang melintasi susunan silinder. Attachment terjadi pada kedua silinder downstream. Hal ini disebabkan adanya dinding datar di dekat silinder bawah. Seiring semakin bertambahnya G/D, nilai CDp tidak berubah secara signifikan dan nilai CLp semakin mendekati nol.

Groups of circular or near-circular structures situated in a flow field with their axes perpendicular to the flow direction are commonly found in engineering practice. Examples are cooling towers in the power generation industries, chimney stacks in the chemical industries, offshore oil drilling platform and overhead power transmission cables. In order to understand the flow characteristics across these structures, an experiment concerning flow characteristics across four equispaced I-type cylinders is carried out. Abstract The experiment was carried out in a subsonic wind tunnel. The test section was of square cross-section, 660 mm660 mm and 1780 mm long. Four I-type cylinders with slicing angle of 65o, outer diameter of 60 mm and length of 600 mm were used as test objects. Acrylic plate of 10 mm thick and 1200 mm long was mounted 100 mm above the test section lower side wall. The upstream cylinders midspan was positioned 430 mm from the sidewall leading edge. The Reynolds number was set Re=5,4x104 (the calculation of this number was based on cylinder diameter and wind tunnel freestream velocity). The transversal distance between cylinders was set L/D=4. Gap to diameter ratio was varied at 0,800; 0,867; 0,933 and 1,000. The cylinders and wall pressure distributions were measured by using pressure transmitters and data acquisition. Oil flow picture method was used to obtain the flow visualization. In general, for gap distance to cylinder diameter ratio G/D=0,800; 0,867; 0,933 and 1,000, the blockage effect no longer affects the flow characteristics significantly. Attachments occurred on both downstream cylinders were caused by the flat plate below the lower cylinders. With increasing G/D, the CDp changes insignificantly and the CLp is closing to zero.
