Batako merupakan salah satu produk dari PT. X dan dua karakteristik kualitasnya yang kritis (Critical To Quality/CTQ) adalah kuat tekan dan daya serap air. Karakteristik kualitas dari kuat tekan adalah lebih besar lebih baik, sedangkan karakteristik kualitas dari daya serap air adalah lebih kecil lebih baik. Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) mensyaratkan bahwa kuat tekan minimal adalah 45 kg/cm2 dan daya serap air maksimum adalah 35%. Pada pembuatan batako, komposisi bahan baku dapat mempengaruhi kedua CTQ, yaitu campuran air dan semen, agregat halus serta bottom ash. Selama ini kuat tekan dan daya serap air batako masih banyak yang belum memenuhi spesifikasi. Agar CTQ kuat tekan dan daya serap air dapat memenuhi spesifikasi, dilakukan suatu penelitian untuk menentukan komposisi air, semen, agregat halus dan bottom ash yang tepat. Optimasi multirespon dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Taguchi yang memanfaatkan prinsip total loss function dan faktor pembobotan untuk meminimumkan variasi dari CTQ kuat tekan dan daya serap air batako secara serentak. Karena ada tiga variabel proses dengan tiga level, maka rancangan eksperimen yang digunakan adalah matriks orthogonal L9. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor air semen (FAS) adalah variabel proses yang mempunyai kontribusi paling besar dalam mengurangi variasi dari CTQ kuat tekan dan daya serap air batako yang diamati secara serentak, yaitu sebesar 42%. Untuk menghasilkan variasi CTQ kuat tekan dan daya serap air batako yang paling minimum, digunakan faktor air semen (FAS) dengan rasio 0,4, agregat halus sebanyak 2 bagian dan bottom ash sebanyak 5 bagian. Penggunaan seting yang optimal ini menghasilkan peningkatan laba untuk satu buah batako sebesar 25%.

Concrete brick is one of PT X’s products and it’s two critical to quality characteristics (Critical To Quality/CTQ) are compressive strength and water absorption. The specification of compressive strength is the larger-the-better, while the specification of water absorption is the lower-the-better. Standard Nasional Indonesia (SNI) requires that the minimum compressive strength is 45 kg/cm2 and the maximum water absorption is 35%. The raw materials of concrete brick consist of the mix of cement and water, fine aggregate and bottom ash. Presently, there are many concrete brick produced which do not meet the spesifications of their compressive strength and water absorption. An experiment was conducted to determine the optimum amount of those three raw materials based on Taguchi method with dual performance characteristics (compressive strength and water absorption). This method utilizes the principle of total loss functions and weighting factors. Since there are three raw materials and each having three levels, the experimental design used the L9 orthogonal matrix. The results show that the mix of cement and water is the raw material that has the greatest contribution in reducing the variation of concrete brick’s compressive strength and water absorption simultaneously, i.e., 42%. The optimum compressive strength and water absorption can be obtained by using the ratio of cement and water as much as 0,4, 2 portion of fine aggregate and 5 portion of bottom ash. By using the optimal’s setting, the profit improvement in terms of raw materials for one unit of concrete brick is 25%.
