PENAMBAHAN UREA SEBAGAI CO-SUBSTRAT PADA SISTEM HIGH RATE ALGAE REACTOR HRAR UNTUK PENGOLAHAN AIR LIMBAH TERCEMAR MINYAK SOLAR

ABSTRAK

Eksplorasi dan pengolahan berlebihan pada minyak bumi akan memberikan dampak buruk bagi lingkungan berupa limbah. Penggunaan alga dalam mengolah air limbah menggunakan sistem High Rate Algae Pond HRAP telah banyak diaplikasikan dalam pengolahan air limbah domestik dan industri. Pengolahan limbah menggunakan alga dapat digunakan sebagai pengolahan lanjutan tanpa menimbulkan polusi tambahan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh penambahan urea sebagai co-substrat terhadap kinerja High Rate Algae Reactor HRAR dalam menurunkan kandungan minyak dalam air limbah minyak bumi. High Rate Algae Reactor HRAR yaitu penerapan HRAP dalam skala kecil yang digunakan dalam percobaan berjumlah 8 buah. Variabel penelitian adalah konsentrasi minyak solar dalam air limbah dan konsentrasi urea yang digunakan. Penelitian ini dimulai dengan memasukkan 5 variasi konsentrasi limbah minyak solar pada alga yang telah dibiakkan. Dari penelitian tersebut diambil 2 variasi konsentrasi dimana alga masih mentolerir konsentrasi limbah minyak solar. Konsentrasi minyak solar yang didapat dari penelitian pendahuluan adalah sebesar 346 ppm dan 692 ppm. Setelah itu lalu dilakukan penelitian utama dengan menambahkan 3 konsentrasi urea yang berbeda. Penelitian dilakukan selama 14 hari setiap dua hari sekali untuk semua parameter. Parameter yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah kandungan Oil and Grease Chemical Oxygen Demand COD klorofil a Dissolved Oxygen DO pH nitrogen-amonia temperatur dan Mixed Liquor Suspended Solid MLSS. Dalam penelitian utama menunjukkan bahwa sistem HRAR dapat mengolah air limbah mengandung minyak solar. Efisiensi penyisihan minyak solar paling optimal oleh sistem HRAR untuk variasi penambahan minyak solar 346 ppm adalah dengan penambahan urea 01 grL sebesar 8333 sedangkan untuk variasi penambahan minyak solar 692 ppm menggunakan penambahan urea sebesar 03 grL sebesar 8505.


ABSTRACT

Excessive exploration and processing of fuel has an impact to the environment namely waste product. The use of algae in wastewater treatment system using High Rate Algae Pond HRAP has been widely applied in the processing of domestic and industrial wastewater. Wastewater treatment using algae can be used as an advanced treatment without causing additional pollution. This research aims to assess the effect of the addition of urea as a co-substrate on the performance of High Rate Algae Reactor HRAR in reducing the oil content in petroleum wastewater. High Rate Algae Reactor HRAR system as an application of HRAP on a small scale that used in this research were 8 pieces. The research variables are the concentration of diesel oil in the wastewater and the concentration of urea used. Premilinary research was done by using 5 different concentration of diesel oil by evaluating to research on algae growth. Preliminary result show 2 variations of diesel oil concentration where algae can still tolerate diesel oil. Concentration of diesel oil which is obtained from a preliminary study were 346 ppm and 692 ppm. After that the last major research was done by adding three different concentrations of urea. The research was conducted for 14 days every two days for all parameter. The parameters used in this research were the Oil and Grease contentChemical Oxygen Demand COD chlorophyll a Dissolved Oxygen DO pH nitrogen-ammonia temperature and Mixed Liquor Suspended Solid MLSS. In this main research showing that HRAR system can be applied to remove diesel oil contained wastewater. The optimum removal efficiency for diesel oil 346 ppm variation is the addition of urea 01 g L is equal to 8333. In addition variation of 692 pp diesel oil can be seen the optimum removal efficiency of diesel oil was 8505 with the addition of urea 03 g L.
