ABSTRAK

Dalam rangkaian proses produksi dalam industri misalnya industri makanan farmasi minyak dan gas bahkan industri rumah tangga seringkali menghasilkan air limbah. Air limbah ini jika tidak diproses akan mengakibatkan pencemaran lingkungan. Sebagai contoh adalah air yang bercampur dengan minyak maupun air yang mengandung unsur logam berat. Air seperti ini harus ditreatment dengan cara yang ramah lingkungan baru bisa dibuang secara bebas. Salah satu alat untuk mentreatment air adalah separator. Tugas akhir ini mengambil referensi dari proyek pembuatan eparator tipe parallel plate interceptor di PT Surya esindo Sakti dengan panjang 84015 inch dan diameter 42008 inch. Separator tipe parralel plate interceptor ini menggunakan plat pada semua konstruksinya termasuk internalnya. Hal ini tentu saja tidak efisien karena membuat separator lebih berat dan lebih mahal. Sasaran tugas akhir mengganti internal dengan tipe corrugated plate interceptor untuk meningkatkan efisiensi pemisahan dan kecepatan tetesan minyak ke permukaan dengan bahan yang lebih murah. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa konstruksi separator dengan tebal shell dan head sebesar 0313 inch aman digunakan. Hasil pengujian juga menunjukkan jarak antar plate pack dan luasan mempengaruhi kecepatan tetesan minyak pada saat tetesan minyak akan naik ke atas permukaan. Semakin kecil jarak antar plat interceptor maka proses pemisahan air dan minyak akan semakin efektif.


ABSTRACT

In production processes in industries such as food industry pharmaceuticals oil and gas industry even households often produce waste water. This waste water if not processed will result in environmental pollution. For example is water mixed with oil and water containing heavy metal elements. Water like this should be treated with the new environmentally friendly ways . One of tools used for water treatment is separator. This final project is taking reference from the project of parralel plate interceptor type separator in PT Surya Besindo Sakti with 84.015 inches in length and 42.008 inches in diameter. Separator with parralel plate interceptor type uses plate at all including its internal construction. Of course this is inefficient because it makes separator heavier and more expensive. This final project replacing the internal with corrugated plate interceptor type to improve separation efficiency and speed of the oil droplet to the surface with cheaper materials. The test results show that the construction of separator with 0.313 inch thickness of shell and head is safe to use. The test esults also indicate that area and distance between the plate pack affecting the speed of the oil droplets when the droplets of oil rise to the surface. Smaller distance between plate interceptor make separation process will be more effective.
