PENGARUH TEMPERATUR DAN LAJU ALIRAN GAS CO2 PADA SINTESIS KALSIUM KARBONAT PRESIPITAT DENGAN METODE BUBBLING

EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND CO2 GAS FLOW RATE ON THE SYNTHESIS OF PRECIPITATED CALCIUM CARBONATE PCC PREPARED BY BUBBLING METHOD

ABSTRAK

Kalsium karbonat presipitat mempunyai tiga jenis bentuk kristal yaitu kalsit vaterit dan aragonit. Pengaruh temperatur dan laju aliran gas CO2 terhadap pembentukan fase dan morfologi PCC telah dipelajari. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode bubbling. Pada proses karbonasi variasi temperatur reaksi yang digunakan adalah 300C 500C dan 700C sedangkan pada masing-masing variasi temperatur dilakukan variasi laju aliran gas CO2 yaitu 2 5 dan 7 SCFH. Selama proses karbonasi temperatur dan kecepatan pengadukan dijaga konstan. Endapan yang terbentuk disaring kemudian dikeringkan. Karakterisasi yang dilakukan mengggunakan XRD dan SEM. Dari hasil yang didapatkan dapat diketahui bahwa vaterit terbentuk pada temperatur rendah dengan laju aliran gas CO2 tinggi dengan fraksi volum maksimum 3226 pada temperatur 300C dengan laju aliran 7 SCFH aragonit terbentuk pada temperatur tinggi dengan laju aliran gas CO2 rendah dengan fraksi volum maksimum 907 pada temperatur 700C dengan laju aliran 2 SCFH sedangkan kalsit tebentuk pada setiap variasi perlakuan yang dilakukan karena kalsit merupakan fase yang paling stabil.


ABSTRACT

Precipitated calsium carbonate PCC has three crystal polymorphs namely calcite vaterite and aragonite. Effect of temperature and CO2 gas flow rate on the phase and morphology PCC was studied. In this reasearh samples were prepared by bubbling method. The temperature and CO2 gas 64258ow rate and content were varied in each carbonation process. Varying temperature covers 300C 500C and 700C while the variation of CO2 gas flow rate is 2 5 and 7 SCFH. During the carbonation temperature was kept constant and the solution was continuously stirred at a constant rate. The prepared solids were collected by 64257ltering through membrane 64257lters and then dried. Characterization using XRD and SEM were conducted. The results showed that vaterite was formed at 300C with a flow rate of 7 SCFH with a gain of 3226 phase content aragonite was formed to result in 907 phase content at 700C with flow rate of 2 SCFH and calcite was always present at each condition because it is the most stable phase.
