SINTESIS CAOZSM-5 MESOPORI DAN UJI AKTIVITASNYA PADA REAKSI TRANSESTERIFIKASI

SYNTHESIS OF CaOMESOPOROUS ZSM-5 AND ITS CATALYTIC ACTIVITY ON THE TRANSESTERIFICATION REACTION

ABSTRAK

Penggunaan katalis basa seperti kalsium oksida CaO dalam konversi minyak tumbuhan menjadi biodiesel telah banyak mendapat perhatian. Pada penelitian ini ZSM-5 mesopori digunakan sebagai pendukung CaO untuk memperluas permukaan CaO sehingga dapat meningkatkan aktivitas katalitiknya. ZSM-5 mesopori telah disintesis sebelumnya menggunakan metode hidrotermal dengan kation tetrapropilamonium TPA sebagai agen pengarah struktur ZSM-5 dan surfaktan setiltrimetilamonium bromida CTABr sebagai pengarah struktur meso. Padatan CaOZSM-5 mesopori telah dipreparasi dengan metode impregnasi dengan variasi loading Ca 10 15 20 dan 25 bb. Padatan hasil sintesis dikarakterisasi menggunakan tehnik difraksi sinar-X XRD untuk identifikasi fasa spektroskopi inframerah FTIR untuk identifikasi gugus fungsi adsorpsidesorpsi nitrogen untuk mengetahui luas permukaan volume pori dan ukuran pori padatan dan juga uji kekuatan basa menggunakan indikator Hammet. Hasil karakterisasi menunjukkan bahwa padatan CaOZSM-5 mesopori mempunyai karakteristik fasa dan gugus fungsi dari CaO dan ZSM-5 mesopori. Impregnasi CaO pada ZSM-5 mesopori tidak hanya memblokir dan mengisi pori akan tetapi juga menyebabkan luas permukaan padatan berkurang. Analisis kualitatif menggunakan indikator Hammett menunjukkan bahwa semua sampel CaOZSM- 5 mesopori memiliki kekuatan basa yang sama yaitu 68 H_ 15. Padatan yang memiliki kebasaan tertinggi 588 mmolg yaitu padatan 20 CaOZSM-5 mesopori juga memiliki aktivitas katalitik paling tinggi dibandingkan sampel lainnya. Yield biodiesel tertinggi yaitu 5161 diperoleh pada kondisi reaksi rasio molar minyakmetanol 161 3 berat katalis terhadap minyak pada suhu 60C selama 4 jam menggunakan katalis 20 CaOZSM-5 mesopori.


ABSTRACT

The use of alkaline catalysts such as calcium oxide CaO in the conversion of vegetable oils into biodiesel has been a lot of attention. In this research mesoporous ZSM-5 was used as a support of CaO to expand the surface and improve its catalytic activity. Mesoporous ZSM-5 has been previously synthesized using a hydrothermal method with tetrapropilamonium cations TPAas ZSM-5 structure directing agent and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide CTABr surfactant as mesoporous structure directing agent. CaOmesoporous ZSM-5 solids were prepared by impregnation method with variation of Ca loading 10 15 20 and 25 ww. Synthesized solids were characterized using Xray diffraction techniques XRD for phase identification infrared spectroscopy FTIR to identify functional groups adsorption-desorption of nitrogen to determine the surface area pore volume and pore size solids and also base strength test using Hammet indicators. The characterization results showed that CaOmesoporous ZSM-5 solids have phase and functional groups characteristics of both CaO and mesoporous ZSM-5. The Impregnation of CaO on mesoporous ZSM-5 could not just blocking and filling the pore but also reduced the surface area of solids. Qualitative analysis using Hammett indicators showed that all CaOmesoporous ZSM-5 samples have the same base strength i.e. 6.8 H_ 15. The Solids that have the highest alkalinity 5.88 mmolg and the highest catalytic activity than the other samples was 20 CaOmesoporous ZSM-5. The highest biodiesel yield of 51.61 is obtained at the reaction conditions of methanoloil molar ratio 161 3 by weight of catalyst to oil at 60 C for 4 hours using 20 CaOmesoporous ZSM-5 catalyst.
