NUMERICAL STUDY CHARACTERISTICS OF FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER CROSS-FLOW STAGGERED TUBE ARRANGEMENT USING VARIATIONS TRANVERSE DAN LONGITUDINAL FITCH

ABSTRAK

Karakteristik aliran dan perpindahan panas fluida terhadap silinder sirkular dengan pola tertentu sering digunakan dalam berbagai cabang teknologi modern saat ini. Aplikasi praktisnya banyak digunakan pada dunia industri seperti menentukan desain susunan tube atau pipa pada sistem alat penukar panas heat exchangers refrigeration dan air conditioner cooling towerchemical process electronic cooling struktur pelindung jaringan kabel dsb. Besarnya nilai heat transfer saat aliran fluida melintasi silinder sirkular yang ditunjukkan dengan parameter Nusselt number baik itu Nusselt number lokal Nu1060 maupun Nusselt number rata-rata. Perpindahan panas forced convection pada silinder sirkular tipe staggered menggunakan 3 variasi bilangan Reynolds ReD yaitu 80 200 5000 sedangkan transverse pitch 15D 2D dan longitudinal pitch 15D 2D. Temperatur inlet fluida masuk shell 350 oK dan temperatur tube 300 oK dimodelkan dengan Gambit 2.4.6 dan disimulasikan menggunakan Fluent 6.3.26 dengan model turbulen k- SST 2D steady-Flow untuk memperoleh data yang berhubungan dengan profile kecepatan dan distribusi temperatur. Dari hasil simulasi ini didapatkan visualisasi kontur kecepatan temperatur dan distribusi Nusselt number. Terjadi peningkatan perpindahan panas dengan menurunnya tranverse picth ST dan longitudinal pitch SL. Pada ReD 200 terjadi penurunan nilai Nusselt number rata-rata di row ketiga dan keempat sedangkan pada ReD 5000 nilai Nusselt number rata-rata pada row kedua ketiga dan keempat terus mengalami peningkatan.


ABSTRACT

The characteristic of fluid flow and heat transfer on a circular cylinder with particular pattern is frequently used in various branches of modern technology today. The practical application is extensively used in the world of industry such as to determine tube structure design on system of heat exchangers refrigeration air conditioner cooling tower chemical process electronic cooling protector structure of cable network etc. The amount of heat transfer when fluid cureent passes through circular cylinder is expressed by Nusselt number parameter eiter local Nusselt number Nu1060 or average Nusselt number. Forced convection heat transfer on the circular cylinder with a staggeredtype of using 3 Reynolds number ReD varied as the value of 80 200 5000 while the tranverse pitch 1.5D 2D and longitudinal pitch 1.5D 2D. The fluid inlet temperature entering shell is 350 oK and the tube temperature is 300 oK which is modeled whith Gambit 2.4.6 and simulated using Fluent 6.3.26 whith turbulent model k- SST 2D steady-flow to obtain data related to the velocity profile and temperature distribution. From the simulation results obtained visualization contour of velocity temperature and Nusselt number distribution. An increase in heat transfer with decreasing tranverse pitch ST and longitudinal pitch SL. At ReD 200 a decline in the value of the average Nusselt number in the third row and fourth grades while at ReD 5000 the average Nusselt number in the second row third and fourth constantly increasing.
