ABSTRAK

Tingkat kekerasan dan kekuatan benda kerja yang tinggi menjadi kendala pada pembuatan komponen-komponen permesinan. Bentuk yang kompleks serta dengan tingkat kepresisian yang tinggi memerlukan adanya teknologi khusus dalam pemesinannya. Untuk menyelesaikan masalah tersebut proses pemesinan non-konvensional EDM sinking banyak digunakan. Kedalaman potong akhir KPA yang maksimal dan nilai laju keausan elektroda LKE yang minimal merupakan dua kinerja yang ingin dicapai pada proses EDM sinking. Oleh karena itu pengaturan variabel-variabel proses EDM sinking yang tepat perlu dilakukan agar diperoleh respon KPA yang maksimal dan LKE yang minimal. Penelitian yang telah dilakukan bertujuan untuk menentukan kontribusi dari variabel-variabel proses untuk mengurangi variasi dari repon secara serentak serta penentuan seting yang tepat dari variabel-variabel proses agar kondisi yang diperoleh KPA yang maksimal dan LKE yang minimal. Variabel proses pemesinan yang divariasikan adalah machining voltage off time on time dan pulse current. Rancangan percobaan ditetapkan berdasarkan metode Taguchi dan berupa matriks ortagonal L18 21x33. Metode optimasi yang digunakan adalah kombinasi Taguchi dengan grey-fuzzy. Percobaan dilakukan secara acak dengan replikasi sebanyak 2 kali untuk mengatasi faktor gangguan terjadi selama proses pemesinan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa untuk mengurangi variasi dari respon secara serentak kontribusi masing-masing secara berturut-turut adalah pulse current sebesar 20.71 machining voltage sebesar 1905 energy on time sebesar 1400 dan energy off time sebesar 1210. Untuk memperoleh KPA yang maksimal dan LKE yang minimal dalam eksperimen konfirmasi kombinasi variabel machining voltage diatur sebesar 8 V energy off time diatur sebesar 23 s energy on time diatur sebesar 50 s dan pulse current diatur sebesar 20 A.


ABSTRACT

A research is conducted for the optimization of the electrical discharge machining EDM sinking process with multiple performance characteristics based on the orthogonal array with Taguchi-grey fuzzy method. The experimental studies are conducted under varying EDM sinking process variables i.e. machining voltage energy off time energy on time and working energy pulse current. The optimized multiple performance characteristics are final depth of cut and electrode wear rate. The quality characteristic of final depth of cut is larger-is-better while the quality characteristic of electrode wear rate is smaller-is-better. Since machining voltage had two levels while the other three factors studied had three levels the experiment design uses L18 orthogonal array. The experiments are completely randomized and replicated twice. Grey relational coefficient analyses the relational degree of the multiple response final depth of cut and electrode wear rate. Fuzzy logic is used to perform a fuzzy reasoning of the multiple performance characteristics. Experimental results have shown that machining performance in the EDM sinking process can be improved effectively through this method 2071 gives the highest contribution for reducing the total variation of the multiple responses followed by 1905 1400 and 1210 respectively. The maximum final depth of cut and minimum electrode wear rate could be obtained by using the values of machining voltage energy of time energy on time and working energy pulse current of 8V 23s 50s and 20A respectively.
