ABSTRAK

Laju pengerjaan material LPM yang maksimal dan nilai kekasaran permukaan KP yang minimal merupakan dua kinerja yang ingin dicapai pada proses EDM sinking. Apabila proses EDM sinking dilakukan dengan LPM yang rendah maka KP yang rendah akan didapatkan pula. Tetapi proses yang berjalan lambat akan berpengaruh terhadap waktu penyelesaian produk dan biaya proses produksi yang harus dikeluarkan. Oleh karena itu untuk mendapatkan respon LPM yang maksimal dan KP benda kerja yang minimal pengaturan parameter-parameter proses EDM sinking yang tepat perlu dilakukan. Penelitian yang telah dilakukan bertujuan untuk menentukan kontribusi dari parameter-parameter proses EDM sinking dalam mengurangi variasi dari respon LPM dan KP benda kerja secara serentak. Selain itu penentuan kombinasi level-level yang tepat dari parameter-parameter proses EDM sinking juga dilakukan agar diperoleh LPM yang maksimal dan KP benda kerja yang minimal. Parameter proses pemesinan yang divariasikan adalah machining voltage gap voltage energy off time energy on time dan working energy pulse current. Rancangan percobaan yang berupa matrik ortogonal L18 21x33 ditetapkan berdasarkan metode Taguchi. Metode Taguchi- fuzzy digunakan untuk melakukan optimasi. Untuk mengatasi faktor gangguan yang terjadi selama proses pemesinan percobaan dilakukan secara acak dengan replikasi sebanyak 2 kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa untuk mengurangi variasi dari respon secara serentak working energy pulse current memiliki persen kontribusi terbesar yaitu sebesar 4891 energy on time memiliki persen kontribusi sebesar 1356 dan energy off time memiliki persen kontribusi sebesar 1098. Machining voltage gap voltage memiliki persen kontribusi terkecil yaitu sebesar 904. Untuk memperoleh LPM yang maksimal dan KP benda kerja yang minimal machining voltage atau gap voltage diatur sebesar 10 V energy off time diatur sebesar 21 s energy on time diatur sebesar 50 s dan working energy atau pulse current diatur sebesar 25 A.


ABSTRACT

Optimization of multi performance characteristics is a great need of producers of precision parts with a low cost. Rough machining with EDM sinking gives high surface roughness SR while finish machining gives low surface roughness but with very slow material removal rate MRR. Hence achieving higher MRR along with lower SR can be considered as a multi-objective optimization problem. In this research the use of the Taguchi method coupled with fuzzy logic has been applied for optimization of multiple quality characteristics. The EDM sinking machining parameters machining voltage gap voltage energy off time energy on time and working energy pulse current were optimized with considerations of multiple performance characteristics i.e. MRR and SR. Based on Taguchi method an L18 mixed-orthogonal array was chosen for the design of experiment. The experiments are completely randomized and replicated twice. A fuzzy reasoning of the multiple performance characteristics has been developed based on fuzzy logic unit. Experimental results have shown that machining performance in the EDM sinking process can be improved effectively through this method 4891 gives the highest contribution for reducing the total variation of the multiple responses followed by 1356 1098 and 904 respectively. The maximum MRR and SR could be obtained by using the values of machining voltage gap voltage energy off time energy on time and working energy pulse current of 10 V 21 s 50 s and 25 A respectively.
