EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL STUDY OF FLOW IN RECTANGULAR ELBOW 90o WITH GUIDE VANE

ABSTRAK

Saat ini instalasi pipa yang mempunyai effisiensi tinggi sangat menunjang kemajuan proses produksi. Salah satu contoh sambungan perpipaan fitting adalah elbow 90. Penggunaan elbow dalam perancangan sistem perpipaan akan menyebabkan terjadinya kerugian tekanan pada aliran. Hal tersebut dikarenakan oleh perubahan arah aliran fluida yang melalui saluran tersebut. Nilai penurunan tekanan pressure drop pada aliran yang melalui elbow tersebut dipengaruhi oleh besarnya jari-jari kelengkungan dan sudut belok dari elbow yang menyebabkan terjadinya separasi dan aliran sekunder secondary flow pada elbow. Model uji yang akan digunakan di dalam studi ini berupa rectangular elbow 90 dengan radius ratio rmDh 1.87 dengan penambahan sudu pengarah. Sudu pengarah yang digunakan ada 2 model yaitu model 1 dan 2. Variabel yang diukur adalah tekanan stagnasi dan tekanan statis. Tekanan stagnasi diukur dengan menggunakan pitot tube sedangkan tekanan statis diukur menggunakan inclined manometer yang dihubungkan dengan wall pressure tap. Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimen dan numerik dimana penelitian numerik menggunakan software Fluent 6.3.26 dan Gambit 2.4.6. Hasil studi yang didapatkan dengan model 2 pada eksperimen meningkatkan pressure drop yaitu sebesar 67.41 dibanding dengan Model 1 sedangkan numerik menurunkan pressure drop sebesar 50.71. Elbow model 1 memiliki jumlah vortex sebanyak 2 buah sedangkan model 2 memiliki jumlah vortex sebanyak 4 buah mengakibatkan blockage effect yang merupakan penyebab dari pressure drop. Hasil simulasi numerik tentang kontur tekanan dan kecepatan aliran sangat mendukung hasil eksperimen.


ABSTRACT

In this time the installation of pipes has high efficiency to support the progress ofthe production process. One example of piping connection fitting is a 90 elbow. The use of elbows in the piping system design will lead to a loss of pressure in the flow. This is due to the change in direction of fluid through the channel. Value of the pressure drop pressure drop in the flow through the elbow is affected by the magnitude of the radius of curvature and turn angle of the elbow which led to the separation and secondary flow secondary flow at the elbow. The test model used in this study is rectangular 90 elbow with a radius ratio rmDh 1875. Model 2 with extended 70 mm. Model 1 without extended and ReDh877621 x 104 . The measured variable are stagnation pressure and static pressure. Stagnation pressure was measured using pitot tube while static pressure was measured using the Inclined manometer connected to wall pressure tap. Research conducted experimentally and numerically using the software Fluent 6.3.26 and Gambit 2.30. The results obtained in experiments with model 2 is 67.41. It can increase pressure drop than model 1. For numeric is that model 2 numeric is 50.71. It can reduce pressure drop than model 1. Model 1 have 2 vortexs then model 2 have 4 vortex. The results numeric can inform pressure contour and velocity.
