STUDI PERILAKU WEB POST BUCKLING DAN VIERENDEEL MECHANISM PADA CASTELLATED BEAMS
BEHAVIOR STUDY OF WEB POST BUCKLING AND VIERENDEEL MECHANISM IN CASTELLATED BEAMS

In recent years there has been a growing trend of using Castellated Beams for
practical reasons in which increasing in vertical bending stiffness without increasing its weight of the beam. The Web Post Buckling and Vierendeel Mechanism are the two failure modes which has attracted most of the researchers attention over the years. The reason is not only caused by these two failure modes that become the most dominant failure modes of Castellated Beams but also these failures have been more complex to formulate and codify through a reliable simple design method when compared to the other failure modes. In this thesis the structure is divided into two models with three types of opening web hexagonal circular and octagonal Castellated Beam. The first model is three-storey office building which the element of Castellated Beam loaded by distributed load due to the gravitation and earthquake forces. While the second model is a warehouse building which Castellated Beams loaded by concentrated load due to the overhead crane. Based on Aglan and Redwood and Soltani et al formula hence the total resistance to the local Vierendeel bending and the Web Post Buckling resistance in bending are to be predicted. The structure modeling using SAP 2000 v.14 and finite element analysis software which used to analyze the behavior of Web Post Buckling and Vierendeel Mechanism. From those software the results are to be compared using Aglan and Redwood and Soltani et al formula. From the result analysis shown that the larger number of total area of web opening will increase its maximum principal stress. With similar dimension of the beam element which has similar area of opening and throat distance Hexagonal Castellated Beam produces the lowest displacement and maximum principal due to distributed and concentrated load. In terms of investigation analysis based on Aglan and Redwood formula shown that Vierendeel Mechanism and Web Post Buckling occur in all types of opening web due to distributed and concentrated load. In terms of investigation analysis of Web Post Buckling based on Soltani formula models from design criteria shown that due to distributed and concentrated load Web Post Buckling occurs in hexagonal and octagonal Castellated Beam but it is not occurred in Circular Castellated Beam. Meanwhile models from similar dimension of beam element shown that due to distributed and concentrated load Web Post Buckling only occurred in octagonal Castellated Beam.
