WASTEWATER EFFLUENT QUALITY IMPROVEMENT OF RSUD Dr M. SOEWANDHIE SURABAYA USING AEROBIC BIOFILTER

ABSTRAK

Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah RSUD Dr. M. Soewandhie Surabaya merupakan rumah sakit yang memiliki Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah IPAL. Namun kondisi efluen IPAL masih belum memenuhi baku mutu seperti yang tercantum pada Pergub Jatim No. 72 Tahun 2013. Kandungan pencemar pada efluen IPAL untuk parameter BOD COD dan TSS masingmasing sebesar 3031 mgL 10036 mgL dan 71 mgL. Supaya kualitas efluen air limbah dapat memenuhi baku mutu maka diperlukan tambahan sistem pengolahan untuk meningkatkan kualitas air limbah tersebut. Sistem pengolahan yang ditambahkan untuk mengolah air limbah rumah sakit tersebut adalah proses biofilter aerobik. Media yang digunakan pada proses biofilter aerobik adalah kerikil. Variabel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah ketebalan media dan ukuran media dalam reaktor. Influen yang diolah dalam reaktor biofilter merupakan air limbah yang dihasilkan oleh IPAL RSUD Dr. M. Soewandhie Surabaya. Parameter pencemar yang diukur efisiensinya adalah pH DO BOD COD dan TSS. Besarnya penyisihan parameter BOD COD dan TSS dengan menggunakan biofilter aerob berturut-turut mencapai 91 83 dan 93. Reaktor yang paling baik dalam mengolah air limbah adalah reaktor biofilter dengan diameter media 10-20 mm dan ketebalan media 50 cm.


ABSTRACT

RSUD Dr. M. Soewandhie Surabaya is one of hospital in Surabaya which has wastewater treatment plant WWTP facility. But the quality of its effluent more than standart quality as shown on Pergub Jatim No. 72 2013. The concentration of each contaminant parameters from effluent of WWTP such as BOD COD and TSS were 3031 mgL 10036 mgL and 71 mgL. Depend on this condition additional wastewater treatment is needed to increase the quality of wastewater. Wastewater treatment system which can be used to treat the effluent of hospitals WWTP is aerobic biofilter. In this study aerobic biofilter reactors use gravel as medium. The operation variables were the height of bed medium and the diameter of gravel. Wastewater for this experiment comes from effluent of hospitals WWTP. The measurement of contaminant parameters include pH DO BOD COD and TSS. The percentage of BOD COD and TSS removal in aerobic biofilter could reach 91 83 and 93. The best removal in treating wastewater was biofilter reactor with 10-20 mm medium diameter and 50 cm height of bed medium.
