ABSTRAK

Indonesia saat ini merupakan salah satu negara penghasil biodiesel dengan bahan baku minyak kelapa sawit terbesar di dunia. Namun pembukaan lahan untuk penanaman kelapa sawit mengakibatkan penggundulan hutan dan memerlukan lahan pertanian yang luas sehingga memberikan dampak yang merugikan terutama terhadap lingkungan. Alternatif lain yaitu dengan menggunakan Biodiesel dengan bahan baku alga makro Macroalgae. Macroalgae merupakan alternatif yang sangat baik untuk bahan baku biodiesel karena Macroalgae merupakan organisme fotosintesik dengan ragam jenis yang sangat bervariasi dan dapat hidup pada berbagai ekosistem di bumi sehingga memiliki pasokan biomassa yang berlimpah terbarukan. Dalam tesis ini akan dilakukan analisa pemanfaatan Macroalgae sebagai suplemen Marine Diesel Oil MDO pada mesin diesel. Analisa pemilihan Macroalgae yang sesuai untuk suplemen dilakukan melalui data percobaan dan data sekunder. Selanjutnya minyak alga yang dihasilkan tersebut akan dibuat menjadi biodiesel dengan melakukan pencampuran dengan MDO. Kemudian biodiesel tersebut akan dilakukan pengujian laboratorium untuk mengetahui karakteristik dari biodiesel tersebut. Sehingga dapat diketahui apakah penggunaan alga makro ini bisa digunakan untuk menjadi biodiesel di Indonesia. Hasil pengujian yang dilakukan berdasarkan 3 sampel alga makro menunjukkan Biodiesel Eucheuma Cottoni memiliki karakteristik bahan bakar yang terbaik dibandingkan 2 sampel lainnya dengan kandungan minyak 3.935 nilai kalori 37.28 Mjkg dan nilai viskositas 0.9 cst maka merupakan pilihan utama dalam pemilihan bahan baku alga makro untuk proses produksi biodiesel.


ABSTRACT

Indonesia is currently one of the biggest country that produce biodiesel based on palm oil in the world. However land clearing for palm oil cultivation resulted in deforestation and require large farming land thus providing a particularly adverse impact on the environment. Another alternative is to use Biodiesel with macro algae feedstock Macroalgae. Macroalgae is an excellent alternative feedstock for biodiesel as a fotosintesik organism Macroalgae with a variety of species is highly variable and it can live in a variety of ecosystems on earth that has an abundant supply of renewable biomass. In this thesis will be analyzed as a supplement Marine Diesel Oil MDO on diesel engines. Macroalgae selection for this tesis based on experimental data and secondary data. Furthermore algae oil produced will be made into biodiesel. Then biodiesel laboratory testing will be conducted to determine the characteristics of the biodiesel. So it can be known whether the use of macro algae can be used to become biodiesel in Indonesia. The tests result from 3 samples macroalgae showed that macroalgae Eucheuma Cottoni Biodiesel has the best characteristics of fuels other than 2 samples with 3935 oil content calorific value of 37.28 MJ kg and 0.9 cst viscosity make it a main choice in the selection of macro algae feedstock for the biodiesel production process.
