DESIGN AND SIMULATION OF AN AUTOMATIC COOLING SYSTEM ON THE LPG TANK TO REDUCE THE LPG TANK EXPLOISON HAZARD IN PT. MERMAID TEXTILE INDUSTRY MOJOKERTO EAST JAVA

ABSTRAK

PT. Mertex Indonesia merupakan perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang textile yang proses produksinya berlangsung terus menerus selama 24 jam. Gas LPG menjadi salah satu pemasok energi dalam operasi beberapa mesin yang ada dalam proses produksinya. Dikarenakan proses dan kondisi tangki LPG yang memiliki resiko peledakan selama ini tempat penampungan tangki gas LPG yang ada masih menggunakan cara pendinginan manual untuk menyiramkan air pada tangki LPG sehingga kontrol suhu dan waktu pendinginan tidak dapat dikontrol dengan valid. Oleh karena itu perlu dibuat sistem pendingin tangki LPG secara otomatis dengan memperhitungkan rancangan sistem perpipaan dan pemompaan perencanaan volume reservoir laju aliran air penurunan suhu tiap satuan waktu dan simulasi cara kerja perancangan sistem pendingin otomatis dengan microsoft visual basic. Pada perancangan sisitem pendingin otomatis dibutuhkan beberapa komponen yaitu 3 selenoid valves tipe NC 2 buah thermocouple 4 flow switches dan 4 pompa sentrifugal. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan diketahui ukuran reservoir dengan panjang 725 m lebar 7 m da tinggi 7 m untuk volume reservoir sesuai standar yaitu 35525 m3. Instalasi perpipaan digunakan pipa isap pipa keluaran utama pipa cabang dengan head total 213959 m dan volume air yang dapat dialirkan pompa adalah 01152 m3jam. Sedangkan daya pompa dipilih 295 hp. Berdasarkan debit air yang telah ditentukan sebelumnya yaitu 0032 liter diketahui penurunan suhunya adalah 2439 0detik. Pemberian simulasi dengan microsoft visual basic digunakan untuk memudahkan memahami cara kerja rancangan sistem pendingin otomatis. Dengan adanya perancangan sistem pendingin otomatis ini diharapkan dapat membantu mempermudah proses pendinginan tangki secara efisien dan valid untuk dapat mencegah resiko peledakan yang dapat berdampak buruk pada keselamatan manusia dan aset perusahaan.


ABSTRACT

Mertex corp. is a company that produce textile. Its production runs for 24 hours everyday. LPG is one of source to give energy in some machine production process. Because of the process and conditions of LPG tank that have a risk of detonation LPG gas tanks still use manual way to pour water cooling on LPG tank to control the temperature thus the cooling time can not be controlled in valid way. Therefore automatic cooling system in LPG tank needs to be designed. The design includes the count of piping and pumping systems planning the volume of the reservoir the water flow rate temperature decrease per unit time and simulate the workings of automatic cooling system designed with microsoft visual basic. The design of automatic cooling system requires several components. They are pipe 3 NC selenoid valves 2 thermocouples 4 flow switches and 4 centrifugal pumps based on calculation result the reservoir has 725 m length 7 m width 7m height that its volume is 35525 m3. The pipe installation used are suction pipe main discharged pipe and branch discharged pipe with total head losses is 213959 m and the water volume that pump can supply is 01152 m3hour. The pump power selected is 295 Hp. According to the flow of water that had been predetermined it is known that the temperature decrease is 2439 0second. The simulation with microsoft visual basic is used to understand the work proccess of automatic cooling system design easily. The automatic cooling system is expected to help the process of cooling tank works eficiently and valid to prevent the explotion that can affect human safety and company assets.
