Description:

Fixed Dummy Block adalah salah satu nama elemen pada mesin extrusi. Block ini memiliki karakteristik harus tahan beban tinggi disaat ekstrusi aluminium dan harus berdeformasi mengembang untuk menjaga agar lapisan tipis aluminium tidak tertinggal pada dinding silindernya. Guna memenuhi persyaratan tersebut, geometri Fixed Dummy Block didesain sedemikian sehingga memberikan kemudahan untuk berekspansi. Salah satu parameter yang menentukan laju ekspansi dummy block adalah sudut ketirusan. Ratio panjang Dummy Block terhadap diameter (L/D) juga diuji pengaruhnya terhadap kegagalan material. Selanjutnya Fixed Dummy Block dimodel dengan metode elemen hingga (ANSYS 5.4), dengan memilih block sebagai element solid dan contact element sebagai representasi kontak antara block dengan lapisan aluminum. Dari hasil pemodelan didapat bahwa sudut tirus antara 25 hingga 30 akan memberikan distribusi tegangan yang lebih merata. Sehingga energi yang terserap Dummy Block lebih merata. Sedangkan ratio L/D = 0.851 akan memberikan tegangan principal yang lebih rendah.
