Pemikiran untuk merancang turbin mikrohidro muncul ketika melihat di daerah pedesaan yang sebenarnya memiliki potensi tenaga air mikro belum mendapatkan supply aliran listrik dari Pembangkit Listrik Negara (PLN). Perancangan ini sifatnya sangat awal yaitu untuk merancang elemen mesin dan instalasinya dalam skala percobaan yang dapat dikembangkan secara terus-menerus menjadi suatu rancangan yang hasilnya handal untuk diaplikasikan di lapangan. Perancangan bagian-bagian turbin dan tranmisi daya meliputi analisa kekuatan sudu, perancangan poros, belt, pulley, bantalan, pasak, tranmisi daya dan kopling. Data awal perancangan ini adalah gaya lift yang dihasilkan oleh runner turbin serta dimensi dari runner turbin itu sendiri. Dari gaya lift tersebut telah digunakan untuk menentukan bahan/material dari runner serta untuk menghitung besarnya torsi yang dihasilkan oleh runner. Torsi dari runner inilah yang digunakan sebagai data inputan untuk perancangan komponen turbin yang lain. Dari hasil perhitungan yang telah dilakukan, pada kondisi kerja turbin tubular dengan head 1,5 meter, debit 0,95 m3/s diperoleh dimensi dan material dari komponen-komponen turbin serta jenis transmisi daya yang digunakan. Hasil perancangan ini merupakan perancangan tahap awal yang dapat dikembangkan menjadi suatu turbin mikrohidro yang siap untuk diaplikasikan di daerah pedesaan yang mempunyai potensi tenaga air mikrohidro.

The idea to design a microhydro turbine appears when it was realized many villages actually have water fall energy but The Electrical Power Company (PLN) is not available. This design is specialised for designing machine elements and installation on attempt scale that can be developed continuously become a device which result rely on for applicated in field. On designing parts of turbine and power transmission contain of analyze of runner strength, design of shaft, belt, pulley, bearing, key, power transmission and couplings. Initial data on this design is lift force that are generated by turbine runner and dimension of runner it’s self. Lift force soon also used to determine material of turbine runner and also to analyse the value of torque that is generated by runner. Torque from runner is input data for designing other turbine’s parts. From the analyse had been done for the working point head 1,5 meters, flow rate 0,95 m3/s resulted the dimensions and materials of turbine’s parts and the type of power transmission which is used. This design is an initial step in developing micro hydro turbine which will be applied in the villages which have the water fall energy.
