SIMULATION OF MONOETHANOLAMIDE MEA FORMING REACTION BY MONOETHANOLAMINE AND ESTER FROM CRUDE PALM OIL

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh hidrodinamika dan pencampuran terhadap reaksi reversible di dalam tangki berpengaduk yang dilengkapi dengan impeller single disc turbin six blade. Reaksi yang dipelajari adalah reaksi fase cair antara monoethanolamine dengan ester untuk membentuk monoethanolamide dimana reaksi tersebut berjalan lambat oleh sebab itu yield produk reaksi akan tergantung pada kinetika reaksinya selain pada laju pengadukan. Sistem yang akan dipelajari dalam penelitian ini adalah tangki silindris berdasar datar yang dilengkapi dengan 4 buah baffle lebar 0.03 m dipasang pada arah vertical secara simetris dengan ukuran T 30 cm dan H 30 cm. Impeller yang digunakan adalah disc turbine dengan diameter impeller D 0.05 m. Simulasi kinetika reaksi ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD FLUENT 6.2 dengan permodelan aliran fluida yang disertai reaksi kimia Generalized Finite Rate Formulation GFRF turbulensi aliran k- satndart.. Hasilhasil simulasi yang akan didapatkan yaitu berupa variasi yield reaksi berdasarkan perubahan kecepatan putaran impeller dan perubahan flowrate residence time. Dari data-data tersebut dapat diketahui bahwa laju reaksi tergantung pada laju reaksi Arrheniusnya daripada laju reaksi turbulensinya. Pada kecepatan rendah yield reaksi meningkat jika kecepatan putar impeller ditingkatkan. Pada kondisi ini yang mempengaruhi adalah tingkat micromixing. Namun pada saat titik tertentu kecepatan putar tidak berpengaruh lagi terhadap yield reaksi. Kenaikan kecepatan putar pada kecepatan tinggi akan menurunkan yield reaksi. Pada saat kecepatan tinggi yang lebih berperan adalah makromixing.


ABSTRACT

This research was used to know hydrodynamic and mixing influence by reversible reaction in the agitated vessel single impeller six blade disc turbine. The reaction was studied is liquid phase between monoethanolamine and ester to monoethanolamide that the reaction run slowly therefore the yield of product will depend on kinetic reaction beside the rate of reaction. The system was studied in the research is cylinder vessel flat base which is completed with four baffle width 0.03 m and placed in vertical direction symmetrically with T 0.3 m and H 0.3 m. Disc turbine was used by impeller with 0.05 m for diameter. This Simulation of kinetic reaction was done by Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD FLUENT 6.2 with chemical reaction flow fluid models Generalized Finite Rate Formulation GFRF k-e standard turbulence and Large Eddy Simulation LES. The result of this simulation is about variation yield reaction based on variety of impeller rotation velocity and flow rate residence time. From that data could be known that velocity rate depend on arrhenius rate than turbulence rate. In low velocity yield reaction increase if velocity impeller increases. But at the certain point velocity impeller is not influence again with yield reaction. That is show that reaction is slow reaction and only influence with micromixing level.
