Reaktor EGSB (Expanded Granular Sludge Blanket) merupakan pengembangan dari reaktor konvensional yaitu sistem UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket). Reaktor EGSB beroperasi dengan upflow velocity dan organic loading rate lebih tinggi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengolah vinasse limbah dari pabrik alkohol menjadi biogas menggunakan reaktor EGSB (Expanded Granular Sludge Blanket) secara anaerobik dengan parameter konsentrasi COD substrat umpan. Vinasse dimasukkan ke dalam reaktor EGSB secara kontinyu dengan rate 0,4 liter/jam dan dilengkapi dengan sistem recycle untuk menciptakan kondisi fluidisasi supaya gas-gas yang terperangkap dalam sludge lebih mudah lolos dan konsentrasi di dalam reaktor menjadi homogen. Analisa yang dilakukan meliputi MLSS, MLVSS, COD, komposisi dan heating value dari biogas yang dihasilkan. Hasil penelitian diperoleh komposisi biogas untuk COD umpan masuk 5000 mg/l dengan organic loading rate sebesar 5,5 kg/m3.hari adalah CH4 74,88%; H2S 1,02 %, CO2 6,11%; NH3 1,24%; HV 11875 kkal/kg dan COD removal sebesar 56%. Sedangkan untuk COD umpan masuk 10000 mg/l dengan organic loading rate sebesar 10,99 kg/m3.hari diperoleh komposisi gas CH4 71,60 %, H2S 2,04%, CO2 9,82 %, NH3 2,43%, HV 11460 kkal/kg dan diperoleh COD removal sebesar 61,28% dan untuk COD umpan masuk 15000 mg/l dengan organic loading rate sebesar 16,49 kg/m3.hari diperoleh komposisi biogas yaitu CH4 58,37%; CO2 2,24% dan COD removal sebesar 52,35%

EGSB (Expanded Granular Sludge Blanket) reactor is development from conventional reactor that is UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) reactor. EGSB reactor can be operated with higher upflow velocity and organic loading rate. The purpose of this research is to produce biogas from vinasse using EGSB reactor with anaerobic condition and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) concentration substrate as parameter. Vinasse entered from the bottom of the reactor continually with volumetric rate 0,4 liter/hour. This reactor also completed with settler for creating fluidized condition. pH, temperature, pressure and volume of biogas analyze is taken every day, COD analyze every two days and MLSS / MLVSS analyze every four days. Composition of biogas and heating value analyze is taken at the end of the operation. From this research, we obtained that for COD substrate inlet 5000 mg/l and organic loading rate 5,5 kg/(m3.day), gas composition is CH4 74,88%; H2S 1,02%; CO2 6,11 %; NH3 1,24 %; HV 11875 kcal/kg and COD removal 56%, for COD substrate inlet 10000 mg/l and organic loading rate 10,99 kg/(m3.day), gas composition is CH4 71,60 %, H2S 2,04%, CO2 9,82 %, NH3 2,43%, HV 11460 kcal/kg and COD removal 61.,28%, for COD substrate inlet 15000 mg/l and organic loading rate 16,49 kg/(m3.day), gas composition is CH4 58,37%; CO2 2,24% and COD removal 52,35%.
