Description:

Metode standard dalam pengukuran indeks bias yang paling sederhana yaitu dengan mengukur sudut pembelokan cahaya yang melewati wadah berbentuk prisma berisi larutan uji. Meskipun metode ini akurat, namun membutuhkan ruangan yang cukup besar. Kemudian dikembangkan metode lain. Makalah ini membahas penelitian tentang pengukuran indeks bias menggunakan metode interferometri. Umumnya metode interferometri bekerja dengan mengukur jari-jari cincin interferensinya, namun untuk bisa menghasilkan bayangan cincin-cincin interferensi membutuhkan komponen optik dengan kualitas sangat baik dan sangat mahal. Pada Tugas Akhir ini dicoba untuk melihat adanya kemungkinan indeks bias dapat diukur hanya dengan mengukur intensitas cahaya hasil interferensi meskipun interferometer yang dibuat tidak mampu menghasilkan cincin interferensi. Metode ini bekerja dengan cara sinar laser dipisahkan menjadi dua berkas. Berkas uji dilewatkan ke sampel yang hendak diukur, sedangkan berkas referensi tidak melewati apa-apa. Kedua sinar tersebut kemudian digabungkan kembali. Hasil interferensi cahaya yang diukur berupa pelemahan amplitudo intensitas) cahaya. Data yang didapat dianalisa secara grafis untuk dihasilkan persamaan kurva. Persamaan inilah yang dijadikan sebagai rumus penghitungan indeks bias sampel yang hendak diuji. Dari hasil pengukuran indeks bias 7 sampel larutan gula sebanyak 4 kali pengujian didapatkan error rata-rata sebesar 1 %. Pengujian pengukuran indeks bias terhadap sampel alkohol, air, formalin dan gliceril didapatkan error rata-rata 0,5%.

Standard method to measure index of refraction ussually by measure light deflection angle that pass through prismatic cuvatte. Although this method good enough, this method need quit large space. Then new method had been developed. This paper discuss the reseach of new method to measure index of refraction using interferometry method. Commonly interferometry method works by measuring its interference fringe, but to produce interference fringe need very good quality optical component and also quite expensive. In this fimal project we try to search if there is any possibbilities to measure index of refraction even this interferometer can't produce interference fringe.This method works by split laser light into two beam. Test beam passed through sample, and reference beam didn't pass anything. That two beams joined together. This interferenced light measured by measure its weakened light intensity.Collected data graphically analyzed to produce cuve equation. This equation will be used as basic equation to measure index of refraction of another sample. From 4 times index of rafraction measurement of 7 sugar sample can be found error rate 1%.Index of rafraction measurement to alcohol, water, foemalin and gliceryl can be found error rate 0,5 %.
