A hyperspectral sensor is effectively and precisive for rice growth estimation. Some stages of rice growth over the paddy fields in Subang and lndramayu Districts - West Java were classified by using an airborne hyperspectral sensor "HyMap" and a field-portable
spectrometer "FieldSpec pro". Those stages then are grouped as vegetative, reproductive, ripening phases and harvested. HyMap were acquired with the wavelength range of 450-2500 J.lm and wavelength resolution of 0.015 J.lm in VNIR and 0.013 J.im- 0.017 J.im in SWIR, a Field of View (FOV) of 60 degrees and at a flight altitude of about 2000 m. Spatial resolution was 4.5 m. For calibration and validation, spectral measurement also conducted using FieldSpec Pro over both districts. Several sampling areas which size of
500 x 500 m were selected. In each sampling area then set to quadrats. The quadrat (10 x 10m) was set on near-uniform growth place at least 10m inside from the edge of paddy field, because border effects make variety of rice growth. Average spectral data of paddy
rice was recorded by 5 points measurement in each quadrat. The wavelength range, wavelength resolution and FOV of FieldSpec were 0.35-2.5 J.lm, 1 nm and 20 degrees, respectively. Observation height was 10-50 em upper from paddy rice canopy. The growth
stages classification results using SAM method showed that in Subang District there were 2 stages and lndramayu District were 3 stages. This is due to in Subang, transplanting date was almost started at the same time compared to lndramayu District.
