Konversi abu layang batubara menjadi zeolit merupakan salah satu alternatif pemanfaatan abu layang batubara. Pada penelitian ini, zeolit A murni telah berhasil disintesis dari abu layang batubara Paiton melalui perlakuan pemisahan magnetik dan metode fusi alkali menggunakan NaOH untuk aktivasi Si dan Al dalam abu layang dengan variasi rasio NaOH/FA = 0,8; 1,0; 1,2 dan 1,4. Kelarutan Si dan Al terbesar didapatkan pada rasio NaOH/FA = 1,4. Gel dipreparasi dengan rasio SiO2/Al2O3 = 1,64 melalui penambahan NaAlO2 sebagai sumber Al. Kristalisasi dilakukan pada suhu 100oC salama 24 jam. Hasil karakterisasi dengan menggunakan XRD dan FTIR, menunjukkan keseluruhan produk adalah zeolit A. Hasil produk terbanyak didapatkan dari rasio NaOH/FA = 1,4 tetapi kristalinitas tertinggi didapatkan dari rasio NaOH/FA = 0,8. Nilai kapasitas pengikatan kalsium (CBC) zeolit dengan rasio NaOH/FA 0,8 adalah paling tinggi yaitu 296,16 meq/100gr .

Conversion of coal flyash to zeolite is one alternative of fly ash utilizations. In this study , pure zeolite A was successfully synthesized from coal fly ash by magnetic separation treatment, followed by alkaline fusion using NaOH to activate Si and Al contained in fly ash with NaOH/FA rasio of 0,8 ; 1,0 ; 1,2 ; 1,4. The highest solubility of Si and Al was observed in reaction mixture of NaOH/FA=1,4. The Gel was prepared with SiO2/Al2O3 ratio of 1,64 by adding NaAlO2 as Al source. Crystalization was carried out at 100oC for 24 hours. The characterization results using XRD and FTIR showed that all solid products ware zeolite A. The highest quantity of product was obtained from zeolit with NaOH/FA ratio of 1,4 while highest crystalinity of zeolite produced was obtained from zeolite with NaOH/FA ratio = 0,8. The highest Calcium Binding Capacity (CBC) value of 296,16 meq/100gr was observed for zeolite with NaOH/FA ratio 0,8.
