Description:

Diketahui secara umum bahwa solar adalah bahan bakar yang digunakan untuk mesin diesel. Kualitas pembakaran yang terjadi di dalam ruang bakar mesin diesel dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor diantaranya adalah kondisi operasi mesin diesel dan properties dari bahan solar itu sendiri. Salah satu properties bahan bakar solar yang berpengaruh langsung terhadap kualitas pembakaran adalah Cetane Number yang merupakan indikasi kesiapan suatu bahan bakar solar untuk terbakar dengan sendirinya (auto ignition) pada tekanan dan temperatur yang tinggi di dalam ruang bakar motor diesel. Adapun metode yang digunakan untuk mengetahui besarnya nilai Cetane Number pada bahan bakar solar menurut ASTM (American Society for Testing and Material) ada 2, yaitu : Metode Alat Uji (ASTM D-613) dan Metode Calculated Cetane Index (ASTM D-4737). Tugas akhir ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besarkah perbandingan atau selisih hasil analisa dengan menggunakan kedua metode tersebut yang diuji dengan menggunakan sampel solar yang sama. Dari beberapa kali pengujian akhirnya diketahui bahwa faktor penyebab terjadinya perbandingan atau selisih hasil analisa dengan menggunakan kedua metode tersebut adalah pada saat pengujian menggunakan Metode CCI, karena faktor human error seperti salah dalam pembacaan, ambient temperatur dan kalibrasi alat kurang diperhatikan.

Is known in general that diesel fuel is fuel used for diesel engine. Quality of combustion that happened in room burn diesel engine influenced by some factors among others is the condition of diesel engine operation and properties of itself diesel fuel materials. One of the diesel fuel properties having an effect on direct to combustion quality are Cetane Number that is indication of is readiness of a diesel fuel to burnt by itself ( auto ignition) at high temperature and pressure in room burn diesel motor. The method used to know the value of Cetane Number at diesel fuel according to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Material) is 2, that is : Engine Test Method (ASTM D-613) and Calculated Cetane Index Method (ASTM D-4737). This final project aim to know how big difference or comparison result of analysis by using both method by using same diesel fuel sampel. From several times examinations is finally known that cause factor the happening of difference or comparison result of analysis by using both method is at the time of examination use CCI Method, because human error factor like wrong in read, ambient temperature and less calibrate engine pay attention.
