Description:

Pada proses pengecatan struktur misalnya pada jembatan, banyak digunakan metode pengecatan three-coat system sebagai standar perlindungan terhadap korosi dalam dua puluh tahun terakhir. Namun, sebuah sistem pengecatan lainnya yaitu two coat system dapat menjadi alternatif yang lebih baik, sebab dengan penghilangan lapisan intermediate dapat menghemat waktu dalam melakukan pengecatan struktur. Percobaan dilakukan untuk mengetahui ketahanan sistem coating menggunakan spesimen baja AISI 1020 dengan two-coat system (zinc-rich epoxy/polyurethane) dan three-coat system (zinc-rich epoxy/epoxy/polyurethane) serta dibedakan lagi menjadi spesimen dengan goresan dan tanpa goresan untuk masing-masing sistem coating. Uji immersi dilakukan selama 1000 jam sedangkan pengambilan data dilakukan pada 100, 500, dan 1000 jam. Dari penelitian diperoleh data mengenai kekuatan adhesi untuk sistem two-coat lebih tinggi yaitu 4,65 MPa. Sedangkan untuk ketebalan coating three coat lebih besar dengan 253,6 μm. Pertambahan panjang rata-rata scribe hasil uji immersi selama 1000 jam untuk sistem three-coat lebih rendah yakni pada salinitas 33%o sebesar 0,37mm, pada salinitas 35%o sebesar 0,43 mm dan pada salinitas 37%o sebesar 0,4mm. Namun secara visual kedua sistem coating menunjukkan derajat blister yang sama yaitu 8F berdasar standard ASTM di semua salinitas.

Structural painting such as bridge usually uses three-coat system method as a protective standard against corrosion for the past twenty years. But, another method called two-coat system could be a better alternative because with eliminating the intermediate layer overall cost and time of coating can be decreased. Experiment has been done to know the endurance of coating system using AISI 1020 substrate with two-coat system method (zinc-rich epoxy/polyurethane) and three-coat system method (zinc-rich epoxy/epoxy/polyurethane). Every method divided in two category, scribe and without scribe. The study involved immersion test for 1000 hours and data could be taken on 100th, 500th and 1000th hours. From this research known that adhesive strength for two-coat system is better with 4,65 MPa. While coating thickness for three-coat is higher with 253,6 μm. The length of scribe increase slowly for three -coat under immersion test in 1000 hours with 0,37 mm on 33%o salinity, 0,43 mm on 35%o salinity and 0,4 mm on 37%o salinity. But, visual tests prove that every coating system has the same degree of blistering called 8F based on ASTM for 33%o, 35%o and 37%o salinity.
