EFFECT OF REPAIR WELDING PROCESS ON MICROSTRUCTURE AND CORROSION RESISTANCE OF STAINLESS STEEL TYPE 304

ABSTRAK

Proses pengelasan ulang dapat terjadi pada material yang mengalami kesalahan dalam pekerjaan di lapangan. Beberapa kesalahan seperti jenis gas pelindung yang kurang baik lingkungan yang kotor parameter pengelasan yang salah dan sebagainya. Cacat dapat berupa porositas inklusi retak maupun jenis cacat las lainnya. Pengelasan ulang ini mengakibatkan plat dasar dekat alur las akan mengalami perlakuan panas yang berlebihan. Proses pengelasan ulang akan mengakibatkan perubahan pada struktur kristal dan daerah HAZ. Pada proses pengelasan austenitic stainless steel tipe 304 yang melewati range temperatur sensitif 4500C - 8000C akan menyebabkan presipitasi karbida pada batas butir akibatnya jika berada pada media korosif cenderung terjadi korosi batas butir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh proses pengelasan ulang tersebut terhadap struktur mikro dan sifat ketahanan korosi Stainless Steel Tipe 304 berdasarkan kedalaman gouge. Dari hasil pengamatan struktur mikro terjadi presipitasi karbida yang meningkat seiring tingkat kedalaman proses gouging. Semakin dalam proses gouging semakin besar input panas semakin banyak karbida khromium yang terbentuk. Begitu pula pada nilai ketahanan korosinya. Semakin besar input panas semakin banyak karbida khromium yang terbentuk semakin menurun nilai ketahanan korosinya.


ABSTRACT

In the re weld process failure is frequently happened. Such as flux gases unsuitable bad environment welding parameter uncompatible and other. Defect can be porosityvoid inclusion crack and others. Re weld can cause base plate near the groove of weld over reheating. Re weld process will effect the microstructure and HAZ of the material. In welding process of austenitic stainless steel type 304 which pass the sensitive temperatur range 4500C - 8000C will cause carbide precipitation in grain boundaries and the corrosion resistance of the material will decrease. This research objective is to know the effect of repair welding process on microstructure and corrosion resistance of Stainless Steel Type 304 base on depth of gouge. From the mictrostructure observation carbide precipitation increase along with depth of gouge. More depth gouging process more carbide precipitation is occured. highest heat input is applied. Highest chromium carbide is obtained. Therefore corrosion resistance decrease.
