PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN BAHAN BERSIFAT TOKSIK BERBASIS PHENOL TERHADAP KINERJA BIOREAKTOR PENGOLAH LIMBAH CAIR SMAHBR

INFLUENCE THE ADDITION OF BASED-PHENOL TOXIC SUBSTANCE CONCERNING PERFORMANCE OF SMAHBR BIOREACTOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT

ABSTRAK

Chlorophenol C6H4OHCl merupakan senyawa aromatik berbahaya yang tersebar di lingkungan akibat pembuangan air limbah industri petrokimia pestisida dan biosida yang merupakan polutan bersifat racun pada konsentrasi yang relatif rendah dan bersifat karsinogenik berdasarkan EPA Enviromental Protection Agency. Oleh karena itu penurunan konsentrasi fenol atau bahkan penghilangan fenol dari air limbah sangat penting dilakukan. PAC yang merupakan bagian dari sistem SMAHBR Submerged Membrane Adsorption Hybrid Bioreactor selain dapat mengurangi fouling pada permukaan membran PAC juga diharapkan dapat mengadsorp senyawa toksik sehingga biodegradasi membaik. Pada penelitian ini digunakan lumpur aktif yang berasal dari pengolahan limbah Surabaya Industrial Estate Rungkut SIER. Limbah di SMAHBR dioperasikan pada volume 50 L dan konsentrasi Mixed Liquor Suspended Solid MLSS 15000 mgl konsentrasi Chemical Oxygen Demand COD 2000 mgL SRT 10 20 30 hari. Serta dilakukan penambahan Powdered Activated Carbon PAC pada SMAHBR sebesar 0kontrol dan 10 terhadap konsentrasi biomassa MLSS dan penambahan shock loading 4-chlorophenol dan 24-dichlorophenol50 mgl. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui besarnya removal COD fluks permeat serta konsentrasi karbohidrat dan protein yang membentuk fouling. Dari hasil penelitian dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa fouling berpotensi terjadi pada SRT yang pendek. SMP yang dianalisa berdasarkan konsentrasi karbohidrat dan protein yang membentuk fouling lebih banyak ditemukan pada SRT pendek 10 hari daripada SRT 20 dan 30 hari. Setelah penambahan PAC 10 akumulasi SMP menjadi berkurang. Removal COD pada penambahan shock loading 4-CP non PAC sebesar 4803- 6969 dan setelah penambahan PAC sebesar 5605- 7799. Removal COD pada penambahan shock loading 24-DCP non PAC sebesar 4474- 5473 dan setelah penambahan PAC naik menjadi 5022- 6478.Sehingga penambahan PAC 10 pada sistem ini cukup efektif meningkatkan kinerja SMAHBR meskipun dengan penambahan shock loading.


ABSTRACT

Chlorophenol C6H4OHCl is a harmful aromatic compound that spread in environment from effluents of wastewater chemical industries such as pulp and papers pesticides petrochemicals and biocide that poisonous though at low concentration and had carcinogenic effect based on EPA Enviromental Protection Agency. So decreasing and even phenol substances removal that contain in wastewater is important to be done. PAC is a part of SMAHBR Submerged Membrane Adsorption Hybrid Bioreactor system beside can decreased membrane fouling PAC was expected could adsorbed toxic compound so biodegradation become increased. This experiment used activated sludge from Surabaya Industrial Estate Rungkut SIER wastewater treatment. SMAHBR was operated with working volume of 50 L and 15000 mgl Mixed Liquor Suspended Solid MLSS concentrations 2000 mgl Chemical Oxygen Demand COD concentrations SRT of 10 20 30 days. Powdered Activated Carbon PAC were added into SMAHBR with amount 0control and 10 of biomass MLSS concentration and also shock loading of 4-chlorophenol and 24-dichlorophenol 50 mgl were added into SMAHBR. The aim from this research were to understand about COD removal flux of permeate and also concentration of carbohydrate and protein that formed fouling. From this research we could get conclusions that fouling potentially occurred at short SRT. SMP were analyzed as carbohydrate and protein concentrations that formed fouling were found at SRT 10 days than at SRT 20 and 30 days. After 10 PAC addition SMP accumulation decreased. COD removal with shock loading 4-CP without PAC were 4803 to 6969 and after PAC additions were 5605 to 7799. Removal COD with shock loading 24-DCP without PAC were 4474 to 5473 and after PAC additions were 5022 to 6478. So addition 10 of PAC in this system effectively increasing SMAHBR performance though with shock loading additions.
